Wow, not sure how well Wheating would have done today but that happened to him RIGHT when he was winding up his kick and with about 170 m to go. Not much time to recover when everyone else is in full sprint. It always takes Wheating a good 4-5 strides to wind his kick up anyways with his 4 ft. legs which doesn't help. This is exactly why he will focus on the 1500 for major championships. Less chance of chaos and more chance for recovery when it does occur.
Crazy move by the guy passing everyone on the inside including the rabbit.
But again, if KD is hugging the rail then the guy has to go by him on the outside (or get DQ'ed). KD would then step over the rail on the inside and doesn't get in anyone's way.

Personally, I don't want to ride in a taxi when the driver has a bad day.
He should be fined for this, not payed. Or if payed, get some of that money deducted.
I've seen a few rabbit contracts, I can almost guarantee there was money deducted for that.

If I was paying a guy to put a roof on my house and I could see daylight through it, I don't think I'd give him the full amount no matter what the contract said.
So both Rupp and Wheating were tangled up with Kenyans in the last 20 percent of their races today.
Looks like they should head out for a beer together and vent a little.
Crazy day, but I doubt they are feeling lower than Bolt.
Robinson left a bit of a gap on the inside which Lewandowski jumped on (at least he stayed on the actual track this time). Robinson should have either stepped off earlier or hugged the rail. You can't step outside when you're starting to get passed.
I understand people wanting to see free clips of the races, but if you're unaware you can watch the entire meet (plus replay it with fastforward and rewind) for $1.99. It's a really good deal imo.
Funny thing about watching Robinson rabbit today:
At 200 he had a gap, then Kaki ran up on him hard around the curve because KD slowed. Through 400 slowly in 51 but everyone was cool. At 500 KD had put another gap on everyone and was pulling away. By 600 they were running him over and all hell was breaking loose. WTF?
I watched the video about 5 times and keep coming up with the same conclusions. This was not KD's fault. Lewandowski caused the havoc when he pushed KD, with his right hand, out of his way and into the path of the rest of the field. Then Kaki, who was still in contention, got tangled with another runner who was passing...Kaki stumbled and near stopped (nothing Kaki could do as he was thrown off-blance, in front of Wheating who was just beginning his wind up kick. Interestingly, at that point,Wheating was ahead of Symmonds, who nearly caught the leaders. I am convinced that Wheating might have won this race, though in a less than brilliant time.
Having paced IN Europe, AT meets like this before (eg. Zurich, Berlin, Athens) here is my take.
It's a poor job from Khadevis
1)Firstly 51.XX at 400 is not good enough for this level of race and that's the first thing that causes carnage at 600m because everyone is fresh enough to want the same spot on the track. Conversely when everyone is maxed out at 600, you just hold on for dear life and problems like this don't happen
2) Secondly, there is no problem running off the track to the outer lanes. In fact this is what you should do because its funny how when you are working hard to get a point on the track, stepping off and dodging a rail or an infield clock can actually cause a whole lot of issues. I did it my whole career and never had any problems. The thing is, you have to be moving at the same pace as everyone else. There is no point setting a slow pace then slowing down and moving out because as I mentioned dudes are just lurking in the lineup to make their moves.
3) Kaki gets the worst of it and Wheating gets it rough because Kaki whimps out and stops. Kaki shouldn't have done that.
End of the day KD stuffs up but that's track and field. It's surprising given he is a class athlete and should be able to do the job right especially off a slow pace. He just had a bad day and lets be happy he didn't do it in a race between Kaki and Rudisha where they were hitting 1.14.xx at 600. I doubt we will be seeing Mr Robinson again pacemaking this season though.

Depends. Some meets do performance bonuses for hitting the right times. Its unlikely he'll get penalised for what happened financially - he just won't ever get asked back and I doubt he'll be doing any top class 8's anymore. Pacemaking is a tough game - a lot more pressure than racing I guarantee you!
Sounds legit. I agree wholeheartedly. KD probably went out a little too hard in the first 250, and then unexplicably slammed on the breaks to let the field catch up with him. By that time, he (and the field) were slow through 400, at which point he decided to blast the next 120 to open up the gap again and try to make up for his screw up. He ran out of gas but felt the need to make it to 600 to get his paycheck and the race bottled up.
The problem with people saying the Euro guy was at fault is that the 2nd place runner should never be close enough to the pacer to push him if it's an 800. Sometimes in a 1500 or 5k the pacer will try to get through a certain point and then hold on until they get passed. That's when they step on to the infield. This shouldn't happen in an 8, where the pacer should already be in lane 2 or 3 by 580 and ready for the field to pass him by on the inside. It really looked like this was a first-time rabbit, which is pretty embarrassing for a Diamond League meet...
it was all lewandowski's fault there. KD i thought didnt do a horrible job, he went out slow but granted Kaki and the rest of the field didnt go with him anyway. lewandowski went on the inside, where KD was gonna drop off, so i mean whats he gonna do? move to the outside. but kaki is such a bitch for stopping like that. totally screwed wheating, id be pissed if i were wheating.

Are you Ventolin in disguise?
Has any1 noticed these new nike spikes im just wondering. i keep seeing them!. at usa's i saw a few of the oregon guys with them on and now a few kenyans and Leo. If you watch this 800 in fullscreen at about 1:50 when every1 is walking right after the finish look at his shoes, one green one red. are these just new colors or something?
KD seems to be decent from what I have seen; but if you want your race paced you need David Krummenacker. Every time I have watched him he is no more than .5 seconds off - paced the first 800 of the 1500 where 3:30 was broken this year.
Need a pacemaker - hire this guy
