The way he races would have been good for 4th if there were 3 Oregon runners in the race.
I don't see how you are at all a realist, seeing as there -weren't- three Oregon runners in that race. And, uh, German didn't run a race good for fourth, he ran a race good for FIRST.
Idle speculation is just that - idle speculation - and I don't see what you have to gain in trying to detract from this spectacular young man's national title.
I am very much looking forward to German's come back. After a tremendous freshman season, I am excited to see what kind of results he can produce two years (hopefully) stronger.
Wheating, Acosta, Emanuel
That was the weakest NCAA 1500 final ever, I don't see how people thing German did at all well polishing off a field of nobody's why all the real runners were elsewhere or hurt.
Yeah right. Wheating - with his head out of his @ss for once (like lately) - probably would've beaten him. But Centro? C'mon. Rupp? Please. Acosta? Nah.
At worst he was second if the Oregon Dbags ran. But of course in reality, he was the champ. Oh and he was 18.
Don't hate on German cause he's beautiful.
that ncaa fifteen last year had one of the fastest fields in many years.

Are there any witnesses to the "an official stepped in front of German and caused him to get injured" incident, or is it something that was generated by Okie State and parroted by others?
There are no witnesses.
Look before we give german so much credit for how young he is keep in mind that in all reality what really matters is not ones chronological age but their biological age. No 17 year old is the same. Everyone matures at different rates. The 17 year old who just hit puberty a year ago and has run 9 flat is the kid to look out for. I do think German is a superb talent, but biological and trainng age is waht really matters.

So,IF German matured faster than his peers by a year or 2 this dimishes his achievements how?
Guess who's indoor WJR Mile record he broke - nay - smashed:
Jim Ryun!

If you break any of Jim Ryun's 1500/mile HS records = automatic beast.

I don't think the point of the previous poster was to diminish German's achievements. I think that the point was to question whether or not it is reasonable to expect huge gains in his racing abilities in the future based on his chronological age at the time of some very impressive racing performances in the past.
I personally am very hopeful that German will stay healthy enough and gain speed and endurance enough to medal at a major international event over the next several years. Will it happen? Your guess is as good as mine,
Agreed. Take Alan Webb for example. He was really the equivalent of 28 or so when he went sub-4 in high school, which is why he was near balding, and why it is ludicrous to expect him to go anywhere with his comeback now given that he is really in his 40s (biological age, not chronological age).

Oh like Jeff See, yeah See sure turned into a world beater. Anyway, the "indoor WJR Mile record" doesn't exist, IAAF and USATF > TF News regarding that.

Wow, it sure was!
2009 NCAA Men's 1500m Finals
1 Gernam Fernandez FR OSU 3:39.00 10
2010 NCAA Men's 1500m Finals
1 Andrew Wheating SR Oregon 3:47.94 10
2 A.J. Acosta JR Oregon 3:48.01 8
3 Matthew Centrowitz SO Oregon 3:48.08
Except, it's completely different, because at age 18/19, Ryun -was- a world beater and competitive on the world stage. At age 16, when Ryun's sophomore record was set (and the age at which Jeff See broke it), he was an excellent high school runner.
I don't think German looks particularly physically mature for his age, either. In fact, I would say he looks like he began to mature late into his senior year - he looks quite young at his senior state cross country meet.
Lee Emanuel ran 3:37 in April before and Dorian Ulrey ran 3:35 later on. Weak? I think not.
3:39 is faster than 3:48

Are you kidding me?? Ludicrous? Have you not read any of the articles, Webb is getting fit and will be Americans top miler again. He just ran a 8:37 3200 time trial monday, Webb is far from done.
...oh wait, he sucks now!!!

German's PR: 3:39
Wheating's PR: 3:30
Centrowitz PR: 3:36
Acosta's PR: 3:36
Note that ulrey was sick, and emanuel and centro injured when German won.
Nice try though smart ass.
