I just wanted to let anyone know that any post that included a quote from poster golden*********= was removed as his name was inappropriate. It's a shame that the actions of a few have to sully the boards.
Sisson > Hasay for 5k and XC
Sisson = Hasay for 3k
Sisson = Hasay for tactical collegiate 1500 ?
how has sisson shown to be better over 5k/xc? if you're going by head to head matchups at least
Uhh does 15:48 speak for itsel?!!! Sisson also beat Hasay at the 3k at USA champs...
Can someone give me more info on the Wisconsin coach? Have they not had many results the past few years?
it is an amazing time. how many head to head matchups in xc and on the track have hasay-sisson been involved in. that was my question, not if her time was good or not. and she outkicked jordan by a small margin to win the us champs, and jordan returned the favor at worlds. not the dominating beating you are trying to portray
Sisson beat Hasay at Footlocker XC in 2006... the only American runner (HSer) to beat her twice.
Jordan is still a very good cross country runner...don't
let her "bad" race at NCAAs fool you...2 time Footlocker champ and multiple time USA Junior Champ.
I think Hasay, Sisson, and Goethals all being top-ten at NCAA XC.
But, I think Sisson is stronger at races longer than 3K, they are about equal at 3K, and Hasay has the edge in the shorter races.
and hasay beat her the next year...to win the national championship. sisson is amazing, absolutely amazing to be honest. hasay is probably one of the most over raced but productive runners ive seen in a while. she seems to always be at a big meet, and rarely do i ever see a pooper of a result from her. i would like to revisit this topic after emily finishes her first year at the ncaa level. she will do incredible things at 3k/5k if she can stay healthy.
If she has graduated from high school, how does this qualify as a high school record?
she has big thights and quads

It's because she hasn't started college yet. A better way of looking at it is this: many states have their state championship meet after graduation. Should those athletes that have graduated still be able to participate? Of course they should. They're still in high school until the first day of college practice.
I think one of the reasons Hasay gets the hype she does is the fact that she does not dodge competition... our pro runners could learn from her.
Also, Sisson wasn't allowed to compete at her HS meets/run for her school for some reason. Looks like it paid off for a later peak.

Emily Sisson is a trailblazer for others.
I would like to respond to the article "The Week that Was"
"...Emily Sisson set a new US Hs record of 15:48 at World Juniors. According to the McMillan calculator, 15:48 converts to 9:03.6 for 3,000, which is 9:43.9 for 2 miles, which is way better than the HS records of 9:08.6 and 9:52.01. So clearly it's a great performance. But before you get too excited, realize the previous record of 15:52 was only set in 2004 by Caitlin Chock. Chock never improved and ran 16:17 in 2005 and a 16:49 in 2006 before fading away from the sport."
Lets look at the high school girls long distance records.
Amber Trotter: 16:16 at Mt. SAC
Caitlin Chock: 5000m 15:52 (Since eclipsed by Sisson)
Kim Mortensen: 3200m 9:48
Yes, it's true that most of the girls high school records were broken by young women who quickly burnt out or disappeared from the sport. However, almost all are tied together by one thing: An eating disorder. Caitlin Chock was getting over her disorder during her dream season in which she also ran 4:42 in the mile and 9:58 for 3200m. Just coming off of an eating disorder or competing in the midst of having it (like Kim Mortensen) may work for a short time, but it's obviously not sustainable seeing as though Trotter left the sport due to a sciatica and numerous stress fractures, while the rest burnt out completely.
Emily Sisson to our knowledge is not affected with eating troubles and while yes, she may be going to a school that has a history of eating disorders it doesn't seem fair to overshadow her amazing performance by predictions of failure. She appears to be a very healthy looking girl with no signs of the "skeletor" look that most athletes have when they're partaking in unsustainable practices. That being said, she's not new to the sport and has even made it to Footlocker 4 times, which some could argue could produce a burnout affect.
I guess we'll have to wait and see, but my bet is that she'll continue to improve. I'm not saying she'll win Nationals her freshman year, but I doubt that she'll be drifting away from Track and Cross any time soon.
Agreed. She has more in common with Lisa Koll than Chock/Mortenson/Trotter.

Yes, I hope Wisconsin doesn't ruin her..
She a great talent and has a great future in front of her, but she skipped her senior year in track! So, in many minds she should not be considered a high school runner. This sets a bad example for the future of high school and American Distance running in the future. I wish her the best, but it was a bad decision and I hope it doesn't come back to haunt her.

Because she skipped a waste of time HS season? She competed at two world championships (XC/Track) for god's sake!! In the real world - there are better athletes at World meets than in HS or NCAA (see Gregson who ran 3.31 while being 3 years younger than Wheating)- so getting experience on that level can be helpful (see Webb and his singularly unimpressive resume at Championship meets).
BUT. HS records should only apply for HS races, as should College for that matter as well. Up here, any HS record must be done in a HS race, otherwise it is an age-group record. Americans make things so complicated.

Wisconsin is a great school. BUT, the women have a very, very bad coach who has destroyed their program. He will probably destry her career. Too bad Tegen wasn't still there. Wisconsin really screwed him.
Probably a little unfair to Stintzi who seems to have more a problem with recruiting runners than he does training them once they're there.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
