Wisconsin has to be seriously considered for top 5
1. Oregon-Mercados, Puskedra, Stinson, Acosta, Centrowitz. Also Mac Fleet if he can recover from his stress fracture. Probably missing some names. Just so deep.
2. Oklahoma State-German, Lowe, and everybody else.
McElroy as an incoming freshman, lets see what he can do. He's kind of like another German. Super talented, but very injury prone. Missed his senior year, but ran 8:55 as a jr. for 3200 and got 2nd behind Lukas at footlocker.
3. Stanford-I don't think I have seen any stanford distance runner peak at the right time. In track and in cross country. but they return a scary trio in Derrick, Reilly and Heath.
4. NAU-Estrada, McNeill, Jordan Chipnagama. Chipnagama and Estrada always ran close to each other in every race. Chupnagama got 5th last year at xc nats. if Estrada sayed healthy, they would've won.
5. Portland-Kipchumba, Dunbar.

Indiana should be a top 3 team on paper. They ran great in track. I bet when the season starts this fall they will look great.
Then just like last year...they lose to Indiana State and don't make NCAA's.
The IU guys can't get it down when it counts the most. Always been that way.
Back off Twitchell (or whatever IU hating Sycamore you might be). Don't let your heart get in the way of your head.
Just like their all star Kenyan? They show him in the flotrack video of Pre Nationals last year and then he doesn't run another race all year. If you're from Iona then your severly overestimating the coaching staff of your team. If you're from England or are either Mitch Goose Ben Lindsay then youre severly underestimating the depth of the NCAA. Top 20= not happening.
Look up Indiana's results from last fall and tell me why, based on that, they deserve mention as a top ten team. I agree they have the talent, but they've always had the talent.
You don't build cross teams off of 2-3 guys and you don't pick good cross teams based on who has the best lineup of track PRs. Indiana is great on paper, but I doubt they sniff the top 10. Same with Arkansas. Portland will have 3 good guys, not five. Scoring two guys past 120 will kill them.
I have to admit that Portland and Indiana have great fanclubs. Syracuse too for that matter. They're generating a lot of hype that isn't backed up on the xc course.
With that being said, I like NAU and Oregon to battle it out for the win. A young Wisconsin team and Iona will fill out the podium. Stanford has the talent, but Dunn has a history of blowing peaks. I'll put them at fifth because they're simply too good to fall below that. I really don't care enough to pick five other teams.

Have to agree with the post about the Hogs. Ulrey, Fernandez, Haile, and Boyer are all sub 29min 10k runners
Not when it matters.....

How does one stress fracture = injury prone? As far as I know, (competing against him in the same league for a few years) this was his first injury.
I think Princeton has to seriously be looked at as a contender. They return a tough crew.
Cabral 2nd in NCAA steeple and doubled back in the same meet to run 13:53 to get 6th.
Leung was an individual NCAA XC qualifier last year
Amirault- 14:00
Van Ackeran: 8:49 steeple
Soloff: 14:05
Plus a lot of good up and coming frosh's and soph's
While we are on the topic of mid-atlantic, i think a good sleeper pick might be the University of Maryland
Alex Lundy was top 80 at NCAA cross last year and 14:07 on the track
Greg Kelsey 8:55 steeple
Greg Jubb 4:08 indoors
Kyle Gaffney 4:09 indoors
Corey Puffet (incoming frosh) was a footlocker finalist
Dan McDevitt (Loyola transfer) was all region last year in cross country

Why is it so hard for folks to be realistic about OSU?
They have one reliable top gun - Lowe
They have two huge question marks - Fernandez, Mecheso. A reasonable guess is that one will be ready when the time comes and one won't. It's silly to count on both of them given past performance.
So that makes two top guns - Lowe and one of the above
After that their next best returning finisher from last year came in 123!!! Everyone else was behind the guy who finished 123 last year!!
This is a contending team?!? Get real folks. OSU will do well to place top 8. Top 5 is a VERY long shot. Top 3 is just a dream.
Lots of great international guys coming in for OSU. Dont worry, you will see.

No. Princeton hasn't qualified in over a decade, in what is usually the weakest region or one of the weakest. They do have the parts, but they have a long history of having the parts and not qualifying. They have not given any reason for us to think this fall will be any different. Dartmouth will probably make it back to the meet before Princeton does.
As far as Maryland- 4:08/9 milers and freshman footlocker guys DO NOT a top 30 XC team make. You'll see when you get to campus this fall and run your first couple of 8k's.
Georgetown
Villanova
mb Penn State
everyone else.

Umm yeah... I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there. Top guy was 80th-ish last year? A 4:09 miler? An incoming freshman who made it to footlocker? Weak sauce.

I am a little curious as to why you think Penn State will finish ahead of Princeton. They were 17th at Regionals last year. Something like the 7th best PA team. Who do they return other than Mcnally and Dawson? Surely they do not stack up with Princeton. Princeton could very well be top 10 in the country and you don't think they will get out of the region?
As far as Maryland, they are a sleeper pick, nothing more.
You're right. I don't remember seeing results of Syracuse beating Wisconsin on their home course, winning Big East, or winning Regionals.
So Princeton will have 1 all-american, 2 guys around 100, and the rest 150+. Top 20 for them will be an excellent day.
I dont think people realize how deep the NCAA xc meet actually is. 14:00 5k guys often place around 100th or worse. To place top four you need 3/4 studs and your fifth guy no worse than 70.
Stanford, Oregon, Northern Arizona, Wisconsin, Colorado, Alabama, Iona, and Oklahoma State are the only schools with a shot. However, there is no way to know which of these teams will actually put it together one the day. I think either one of them could win.
Anyone who mentions a different school is either illinformed or thinking with their heart and not their brain.

Finally a correct response. And as the posters name suggests its how it always is.
