So humans can avg a faster speed for the 200m than the 100m but can't hold it up for 400m. (male & female world records)
What's the "fastest " distance? Is it shorter or longer than 200?

This isn't true for the female record.
But since it is true for men and since 50m times are much slower (avg) woudn't you guess that the fastest distance for humans is greater than 100m?
Remember about 5 or so years back there was that big hyped "fastest man in the world" race between Michael Johnson, and (I think) Donovan Bailey (or some other Cnandian). It was 150M. Johnson pulled up lame. I don't know what the winning time was. What's the WR for 150M?
Let's look at the times for 3 athletes and compare their 100 and 200 times and their avg 100 for their 200.
Michael Johnson: 10.0, 19.3 (9.65 avg)
Maurice Green: 9.7, 19.8 (9.9 avg)
Frankie Fredericks: 9.8, 19.6 (9.8 avg)
Michael is strong, Maurice is fast, and Frankie is even.
The main factor for both events is the acceleration in the first 30 meters and then factor the curve in the 200.
The 200 WR is usually "faster" than the 100 WR (9.95,19.85; 9.93,19.72). From 91-94 they were the same (9.86,19.72),then the 100 was faster until MJ blew open the 200 in 96.
I would say that the "fastest" distance would be a bit shorter than 200m.
Question: How fast would M J have run the 200 on a straightaway with a running start? 18.? 17.?
when bailey killed johnson it was indeed a 150m race, his winning time being 14.99 I think?
it was a 75m curve with a 75m straight if I remember correctly... they were both given $500k appearance fees, and Bailey also won a cool $1m for winning...
interestingly, bailey, known for his slow starts (he was the last man out of the blocks in the \'96 Atlanta Olympics where ran 9.84WR) has the world indoor 50m record, set back in 1995 I think, in Nevada, 5.56A...
maybe greene has tied the mark since I\'m not sure
