Perhaps it is closer to about 1:35 and btw, I have run a 'ton' of 800s. For a number of reasons, relays benefit young 800m runners. Last year LBP averaged 1:52 in the 4x8, but only averages 1:54x in the flat 800m. 2 years ago Ajee Wilson ran close to 2 flat in the 800m, but 2 years later she still hasn't ran under 2:02 in the flat race. What was Watkins flat 800m PR the year he ran a 1:47.99 relay split...I think you get the point.
Yeah those poor guys in lane one in an open 800 have to run those tight turns and chop their stride, while the relay guys can run out in lane eight anytime they want and NEVER have to chop their stride! Yeah, and guys like Roller,Andrews and Loxsom who run 1:46 in relays but only 1:47-49 in the open...you get the point.1 U Virginia 7:12.15 Brett Johnson (1:50.97), Lance Roller (1:48.13), Anthony Kostelac (1:47.05), Robby Andrews (1:46.00) AA 2 Penn State 7:12.90 Lionel Williams (1:50.69), Samuel Borchers (1:47.56), Ryan Foster (1:47.95), Casimir Loxsom (1:46.70)

Unless it is the lead off leg, a 1:47.99 relay split is about equal to a 1:49.5 out the blocks. A scratcj 800 takes more effort becasue if you are running on the inside you end chopping stride and/or getting banged around, if you are running on the outside you run a longer distance and running from the front or the back impacts your race as well, while a relay leg is almost like a time trial. Although, even a 1:49.5 is a heck of a time for a 16 teen year old.
