That's pretty funny. Ferman Hernandez.

Last 800 = 1:51.
Sick is right. Seeing the 1:51 I figured they ran around 3:32.
But 3:47?????? What a fricking joke. Maybe Wheating was tired from that 800 semi.

Please. None of those chumps could run 3:55.02 solo, indoors (or out), winning by 10+ seconds......none of them.
He'll be back next year, he'll take his title back if he so chooses to run the 1500m, and he'll have a better career than all of them.
Uhm, Centro could have, or Wheating...
based on the splits from here: http://www.flashresults.com/2010_Meets/outdoor/NCAA/ Wheating's last 800 was 1:50. Sick stuff! Great race. Too bad Cyrus Hostetler blew the team championship for Oregon.
Hostetler was a big -10 versus the form chart. It's also unbelievable Oregon gets zero points in the 10,000. Also, how does a potential national championship team not even have an entry in either relay?

Hostetler really hurt the team. But the throws can be like that.
Oregon having no team in the relays, is practically a tradition.
Having an off year in the 5 and 10,000, is a bigger question mark.
Winning the NCAA title has always been either about sprints and throws/jumps, or distances and throws/jumps.
It always has been, and always will be tough for Oregon to get sprinters there in the modern age.
One of the reasons Vin is pushing for Uncle Phil and company to get an indoor training facility...
This race must have just rashed the rear ends of the 3 Oregon haters here.
And, no one predicted an Oregon Sweep.

Yawn!!! They were a favorite to win the team title and took 3rd (bring back Martin Smith; he would have done a better job)
I despise Ferman Hernandez

i am kinda tired of watching oregon be so fortunate. like remember last year when galen won the 5k and 10k AND lost his shoe in the 5k? i feel like in no other college sport is there such a powerhouse team. like in football or basketball theres a handful of really successful programs but they somewhat "share the wealth". and yea you can make the powerhouse arguement in distance running for wisco or colorado but... CMON
Could Acosta have done it? Seemed like he was checking the others out too much.

Lee Emmanuel pulled that same stupid move at the Oregon Relays. When is he gonna realize you can't just run away from a field this good especially when you don't even have the best PB.
He's won two NCAA titles this way.

here here. I'm not saying german for sure would have won today but in the long run those three aren't half as a good as german. They're ncaa winning potential but german might just be olympic medalist level (maybe)
"aren't half as good as German"?
You are maximally deluded.
Centro could beat German, Wheating could beat German, and Acosta if German is off slightly.
And, BEG the obvious your coach and you gotta keep you healthy so that you EVEN SHOW UP at Nationals.
German is fragile.
You either do it on the day, or you don't. Last year German did it.
This year, who?
Yawn!!! They were a favorite to win the team title and took 3rd (bring back Martin Smith; he would have done a better job)[/quote]
Um no. Florida and Texas A&M were the favorites to win the mens title.
Sorry for being a little Far North ....
but who is this German guy? There
hasn't been a good German runner
runner in NCAA history since ....
STEVE PREFONTAINE.
German is not relevant this year. Let's not bring his name up.

And that is why German Fernandez was no better than the 4th best 1500m runner of 2009. Lucky for him, there was no Oregon runners in that race.
OMG, I don't even know where to start. This was one of the slowest 1500 finals in history - actually bordering on pitiful. For a 3:47 to win the mens 1500 final is nothing less than obsurd. None of these cats would have even been in contention 30 years ago. So in 30 years we've made actually no progress - none, nada. That really says a lot for the state of college middle distance running. If it were me, I would hanging my head in shame.

There's already a thread on Martin. Do a search.
I'd put a grand down at any odds that none of the people on this thread bellyaching about the winning time of this race have never broken 3:50 in ANY kind of 1500.
Does anyone remember Cacho in '92?
