What happened to Bizzarri in the 5000?

I disagree that she was running at a pace that was over her head. Her PR is 15:33 and she ran 15:37 already this year so she could have been in the mix. Nervousness can do funny things to people and sometimes you just don't have it when it counts. I hope she runs US Championships.

Bottom line - it was a Barringer (or a Favor) It was mental and that is a big part of racing at this level - this happens every day, every meet some where in the world - some people can handle the physical and mental and some just run well if things go right; when things don't go as planned, they "fall apart". I agree that being honest about it is at least positive, in that, she may be coping with her problem (not in denial) There is no need for posters on here to make excuses for her!!!

It was a Barringer, except Bizzari wasn't the favorite as Barringer was, and she didn't even try to keep going, which Barringer did.

She's been in big races before. Once you start dropping out of a race when you aren't injured, it's easier to drop out again. I hope to see her race well again.

Her 15:37 was run at pristine Stanford. It was not just the pace. There was a significant wind out of the north that affected all the times, especially the distance races.

The pace was a little too much for her but combined with the wind, it was too much.

Yes, I give her credit for being honest... but that was still a weak move. Her mindset is definitely not that of a seasoned pro runner looking to achieve great things. She was honest, but I can't respect her decision to quit the race for seemingly no good reason.

Angela is NOT a seasoned pro runner. She is a collegiate athlete.

You don't quit running in a competition just because you can't win.If everyone followed Bizzaris' example there would be No race.I think Angelas' coaches need to have a sit down with Miss Bizzari.Quit trying to justify bad sportsmanship.

Alistair Cragg drops out 3 out of 4 races because of his feelings. Why waste laps when you know you don't have it that day. It makes sense to save your body for another day. Bizzari is smart. She's no WOP coward like most Italians are known to be.

It takes maturity to realize your limitations on a particular day and to shut it down saving the body for another day. Marathoners know that you do what you have to do.

A damn kiddie race??!? You got to be joking. No one in their right mind is arrogant enough to call the NCAA Championships a damn kiddie race. Quit making her sound worse than what actually happened. She bonked end of story.

Doesn't take much reading comprehension to figure out I wasn't saying she was. I was saying the opposite. I was basically saying what you said, that she needs to get that figured out before she does become one, because that show was not something that's going to impress or help you in your pro career. Having a bit of stamina will do wonders for her.

That was the national championships... why not finish? If it was just some ho-hum meet where she was running for a good time, I wouldn't complain, but that race showed a complete lack of balls (yeah, you know what I mean).
