It's a race, not a time trial. Nothing wrong with running a strategic race. I'm pretty sure that the runners are trying to win the race, not set a PR. Not sure why this makes you "ROFL".
Seems to me these young runners do not learn from history. Maybe I should say runners sans kick do not learn from history. For over 40 years I have watch runner sans speed allow 1500/mile/1600m races to go out so very slow and then get hammered in the last 300 meters. Its kinda funny when you're 4 to 5 seconds slower in an 800 meters to allow the pace to be tactical.I can not recall when the slow tactic won the race for the runner sans speed. Olson should have hammered from the get go and (as PRE used to say) put the crap in their legs.
1) How many times have you seen a miler with comparable times but an inferior kick hammer the whole way and win? He would have just served as their rabbit.
2) Why did you capitalize Pre?
Sorry about the my last 2), but I never saw a Stop Pre t-shirt. It was always STOP PRE. That is why I capitalized the great one's name.
It's okay man, Prefontaine LIVED in CAPITAL LETTERS.
Like so few today.
