I was reading all the threads just to see if anybody else noticed Heidi the Agent. I would keep buying and selling homes in the Portland area if she were my agent for each transaction. Kara's nice and all, but you can never have to many, right?

PS. I wonder if they are downsizing because Adam's peak earning days are a thing of the past or upsizing because a baby is on the way.
They paid $410,000 for an 11 acre lot in early 2009. The lot has a lot of enviromental overlays, so they can only disturb a small portion of the property. A house is under construction. City info indicates a 4,699 SF house with an attached garage, decks, and indoor swimming pool/gym. It deosn't look they are downsizing.
why live in that pisshole area. it rains all the time.

Most important, that real estate agent looks HOT!
That real estate agent's husband (Ben Andrews) ran at Oregon and has pr's of 3:42/1:49.
My wife is pretty good when it comes to interior decorating. I had her look at the pics. She really liked the master bedroom and the kitchen area (although, not the rug in the breakfast nook). Most of the other rooms she thought were just OK but not her taste, and a couple rooms she thought were terrible, specifically the room with the red area rug, maroon ottoman and blue couch.
In the future, please do not purchase the property in your own names for this reason, plus you will reduce your risk to liability.
Thanks.
This is one more reason why the internet has changed the world. We get to look at peoples homes and discuss what we think about them with complete strangers. What a world we live in now. In a lot of ways it is quite sad.
That house is as butt ugly as Venus Williams' soiled shorts.

Tell that to Warren Buffett!!
Actually Warren Buffett's house is worth a little LESS than this one!!

...Priceless.
Incredibly creepy, actually.
The bathroom was hard to look at too
Unless Buffetts home is anywhere near his largest "assett" ;-) then I don't think he has to be too concerned if he loses it in a law suit. On top of that, it'd be pretty hard for a common person to afford to go up against his lawyers.
Considering he could buy a million of these homes I don't think he's too worried. And if he did buy a million, they wouldn't be in his name.
Lastly, Warren Buffett doesn't have to worry about the letsrun.com factor, which the Gouchers do. Considering they are immersed in running and their image in the running world, getting trashed on the #1 site for running discussion in the world is not in their best interest.

Are you from California? Unlike California, in Oregon homes, even of high profile people, are usually in their name.
You can't even move into my neighborhood for $800K. That house would be over $1.5 million where I live in Arlington, VA. My house isn't as nice but it's worth more. So BigLaw >>>$$$ Professional Running. But they probably have more fun.

This is true. Same for Bethesda, MD.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA... Good one!
This site is a very useful source as a link to many(almost all) results one could want to find, but 90% of the DISCUSSIONS are mindless, useless drivel fueled by lonesome losers who think bringing other people down is a way to pump up their own self esteem. Good grief.
Don't bother responding as I will NOT be returning to this thread.

That may be, but keep this in mind. Law suits are common place in california but as the economy gets worse and people lose jobs they do become more common everywhere.
Aside from that, there may be people who you don't want to know where you live (and you may not even know you don't want them to yet) or how much you paid for it.
Granted yes I'm from California, and while you may feel safer in the PNW you can't stop Californians from travelling or moving to the PNW. If you're in Spokane you may have a lot of Russian immigrants, masters at scamming the system for free money. You don't think they will go for gold if you happen to rear end one? They'll show up to court with a neckbrace and a psychiatrist suing for emotional damages on top of physical damages. If all you have is your home (in your name), you might not have that for long.
I can't argue that there are benefits from not owning a house in your name. My comment wasn't releated to safety. I have just observed that in California all kinds of homes, particularly those of higher profile people, are often owned in trusts or other entities that make it difficult to obviously tell who the owner is at first glance. That is not as much the case in Oregon and Washington. I don't know the reason, but I've always wondered if it was more of a legal or tax issue or just a cultural issue. You do see homes in Oregon in a trust or LLC but it is much less common than in Cali.
Go to
Type in a street address.
Up comes the property, the owner's name, the price paid for the house, property tax history as well as any improvements done on the home complete with city records of permits and permit approvals.
For the record: Forest Heights where the Gouchers live is a maze of suburban streets with massive faux McMansions. There is not one ounce of character in the neighborhood or in the homes. They all look like the Gouchers, devoid of personality and charm and any sort of street life or interest.
Normally you buy a house for, at most, 3X your annual income.
At some point, they won't be pro runners anymore. I hope they paid off this house, or the next one before their running careers are over. Even afterwards, they'll likely have some insane real estate taxes. This is how people get into financial ruin. Yea, I'm spilling a can of worms. But that's a lot of money, especially given the market is down, and that they may've paid more.
