If he really coasted to a 1:46, then I would SERIOUSLY suggest he may have sub 1:43 capability.

He's going to line up in the final with a Garmin and water bottle belt.
I thought Wheating looked more winded afterwards than Andrews did, but who knows what that really means. There are 15 1:46 guys or better going to Eugene. It will be crazy.
Let wheating speak for himself. If he was jogging, we shall see in Eugene (144 or better to call 146 a jog) . If he makes excuses for his loss because he doubled, no one here will grant his double as an excuse. He chose to double. Sometimes running more races at these distance gets you more prepared to run all out in the finals. Not to mention will prepare him to transit onto the pro level much better.
Good post. Wheating's double at the NCAA Finals is geared toward garnering maximum team points, at the expense of potentially losing the 800 meter race. Wheating has discussed this and is reconciled to the possibility that he will not win the 800 but will score more total points for his team. He is a super talent and we really won't begin to see what he is capable of until he goes pro this Summer and starts racing in Europe and in the big pro meets. I have to think that while he may get beat a few times as a collegian, he will have a much better long-term pro career than a guy like Robby Andrews. JMO.

You think doubling at a meet as a senior means he will have a better long term career htan a STUD freshmen who has been handing him his arse all year, i think not. You are an absolute idiot. This is only the beginning. N o comepetion will even exist between these two in five years because Andrews will be SO FAR SUPERIOR in every aspect. In fact, he may already be. Once again, you just got KERPLUNKED. What an awful poster.
It's time for Wheating to make the 1500-Mile his main distance.
I've got a feeling that RA is going to smoke Wheating in the 800 final. Just a feeling, but....
Everything you've just said is based on pure speculation. Who knows where both will be in the next 5 years?
One thing that seems apparent though, is that Andrews, being the younger runner, has the greater upside at the moment. Will that promise be fulfilled though?
Wheating is a perfect example. 2 years ago he emerged during outdoors as a fresh new talent, a force to be reckoned with, winning every race in a dominating kick up until the NCAA championships, where he lost by .01 seconds to Hernandez. Given his late start to track in high school, Wheating's promise seemed to be enormous.
That was his Sophomore year. Two years later, can we really say for sure whether he's improved that much? His win over Ulrey in the DMR indoors is the best race he's had so far this year, but until he PRs in the 800 (or by more than 1 sec in the 1500) or does something extraordinary, which he may very well accomplish at NCAAs, the jury is out on how much, if any, he's improved since sophomore year. This is no fault of Wheatings. Injuries happen, things don't always go as planned. That doesn't mean he won't still improve, it just might take a little longer.
Andrews is in a similar position to where Wheating was his Sophomore year. He's undefeated in every race he's run leading up to NCAA's, winning every competition in his signature style, a blistering at the finish. And just like Wheating two years ago, Andrews, being only a freshman, seems to have enormous upside at the moment. Whose to say his story won't unfold the same way Wheatings did?
And to continue the speculation about whose really better, if one believes that Wheating was as good during his Sophomore year as he is now, pending the results of NCAAs, is it not reasonable to argue that he would have competed with Andrews just as much then as he does now? Progressions don't always work the way we'd like them to.
I wish both men the best of luck though, and I'm confident that both will continue to improve despite the hurdles they may face.
Andrews has peaked, it's all down hill.
there are no hurdles in an 800 silly goose

Nice line. This and his 3:59 jog at Penn.
That was what was wild...he really did seem to be jogging...well running well, well, well within himself.
Smooth and relaxed.

The greats win races, which wheating seldom ever does, and never does when Andrews is in the race.
Simply NOT true.
The dude wins almost every college race he enters. A few blips this year, as he is trying to learn to front run a little more.
But the dude has won like all his dual meets, invitationals, pac tens, for almost 3 years. Barely got second at nationals, and then won it the next year.
Few guys or girls have a string of 1sts and close seconds that matches up.

definitely agree. the kid is still inexperienced even though he is an olympian.
3:37.5 today for the man. yesterday couldn't have been too hard.
Very nice back to back day show for Wheating. I was also very pleased with the way he conducted himself in his interview yesterday. In the past he has been incredibly big headed and annoying. He thinks he is charasmatic/charming/humorous, but it is quite obvious he is not. He was much better just keeping it short and to the point. That is why he runs track and is not in Hollywood.
Wheating always spreads the positive vibes around and discusses other runners in a favorable way. He's from the beautiful state of Vermont, where grounded people abound!

See, and I believe this is the EXACT reason why Wheatong is doubling. If Andrews slaps him in the face and wins, the Wheating camp will be like, "Oh, but Wheating was doubling." He wants an excuse to lose this time since he can't blame it on the tight turns or whatever he said for Indoors.
Uhm, it has been Wheating's desire, request, and PLAN to double in his senior season, at home, since last fall...
Read the press much?
wheating and lannana have also said USA and the summer is going to his peak season. Would it really suprise anyone if he ripped 3:34 and a 1:44 overseas?
