Casimir Loxsom FR Penn State 1:47.73 Q 2(1). Loxsom is going to SLAP Andrews silly when they meet. Loxsom has twice the racing ability of Andrews (the whipping boy). I cannot wait to see the chump Andrews when his ass gets kicked.
Two things:
1) You are wrong. If Loxsom has twice the racing ability of Andrews he would
have won indoor NC's.
2) Wheating is doubling. THAT may take something out of you.
I'm super pumped Cas is in the final. I think he'll do well. He seems to not do as well at big races, and while this is a big race, it's still only the regional.
Should be a great race!

He isn't in the final yet.
I still say there is a good chance Andrews will go 1:43 or better within the next 2 yrs. WK's WR may be in sight at some point in the distant future.
I totally agree with you. I went to greensboro last night and Andrews seems to do what he needs to do to win in every race. I dont think his upside has even been tapped yet

Gary Hill is a nice guy, bit arrogant, but who the hell else is going to toil through publicizing our sport in print?
Thank god for senile alcoholics!
I'm starting to feel bad for Andrews. Now, before I get dragged off to the loony bin, here's why.
Andrews is on an awesome hot streak right now. He's pretty much had a dream freshman year. Unfortunately, all hot streaks must come to an end. I'm not saying Andrews won't be a high-level runner for long, because that's crazy. I just mean that, like any runner, he's going to inevitably have periods where races just aren't clicking or what have you and instead of running stellar every time, he "merely" runs very good.
This wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that now he's got this huge bandwagon on letsrun. Like Wheating a couple years ago, he's the Current Big Thing. If he has a little bit of a sophomore slump, (and let's face it, it'll be tough to duplicate the success of his freshman year) he'll get torn apart on here. Same deal as guys like Fernandez or Puskedra or Wheating or any young talent who has some struggles.
I feel a little bad for the fact the fact that if he hurts his calf next season, or gets outleaned, or ends up missing his PRs by a few tenths next year, he's going to get blasted on here. Ups and downs are part of running, but at the level of worship posters on here, I don't think Andrews is going to be allowed to have the downs- and that's a tough position to put a teenager in.
Last year, we had predictions that Puskedra would break 28:00 this year; now we have threads dedicated to examining his failure. Derrick was "supposed" to go 13:10-13:15 this year, instead, after an achilles injury, I read about he was "basically a grown man at 17" and would never improve again. Hell, when Wheating made the Olympic team, it was supposed to be only a "matter of time" before he ran 1:43 and 3:33. Two years later, Wheating's had some ups and downs, and yet most of the board is ready to write him off because his career hasn't been a steady linear improvement.
I'll end with this: I think Andrews has a bright future. I just hope that next year, if he "only" runs 1:47.0, or finishes 2nd in a race, or tweaks his hamstring and has to miss a big meet, that he doesn't get discouraged by the horde of morons who will write him off, talk shit about Vig, urge him to go pro, urge him to quit, call him a sissy, etc.
And how about the kid who ran the fast time of the day? What did he look like in his race? From the live feed, it looked like he was running within himself. Also, looking at the splits, the only one who closed faster in all 3 semis was Andrews, but he went out in 53 and change as opposed to 51 high for the Georgia kid.

Three things:
1) Cas was sick at indoor NC's. In all fairness we should consider that a wash.
2) With that said, I do think Andrews is the better racer, even though I'm a huge Cas fan as a CT (and New Haven!) resident
3) But Cas's racing seems to have gotten better. Four wins in a row now - Stanford, Big Tens, his Regional prelim, now Regional semi. Could be interesting.

I've coached a lot of girls and.........
........ oh... wrong thread.
is there any videos of the regionals? Just wanna see how baadly andrews was rigging up before i make a judgement on whether this kid has got the skills to win a race when it goes 1:45 this year

He's a world class jerk. Track and Field News is irrelevant now.
Evens is a great runner. The 3rd heat was tough - 4 guys under 1:47 - I know Im bias but andrews seems to run to win. I wish I could get to oregon It will probably take 1:44 to win

Would love to see a 1:44. Still though, a far cry from the days of Joaquim Cruz.

I was assuming there was a prelims, semi's, and finals for regionals. If there was a finals for regionals he would be in it.
Casimir had pneumonia this winter and was recovering at the time of the Indoor Champs. I just saw him run a 600 time-trial under the existing American Junior Record at practice one week before the Regionals wearing training flats. I'm looking forward to a fairly good race among all of them!
I agree with T&FN picking Andrews for 4th in the NCAA Champ 800. Perhaps I would say 3rd, although I would not be totally surprised if he won either. Unless Wheating trips and falls, he will win the 800 and the 1500 as well. The reason is simple, he is better than the other guys; Wheating is the only athlete in the field capable of 1:45 flat and 3:35 flat if necessary. In terms of the 800, there are just too many guys like Jock, Primm, Loxsom, Rut, Evans, Greer and Jones, etc., whose 800 PR is better or close to Andrews to say he is going to beat all of these guys.

And yet none of them other than Wheating can close like him. A month ago I would have been more inclined to say he could easily finish out of the top 3, now I'd say it would be a bad race if he was out of the top 3.
I don't know how fast he can go, but my feeling is its faster than everyone but Wheating and he's doubling. Plus, the race likely isn't going to go as fast as Wheating can so Andrews has a shot for sure. I think Wheating can go under 1:44 right now in an all out fast race, but I also think Andrews can go under 1:46 and I don't think any other guys can do that and have any kick in the NCAA.
All that said, weird things happen in races and with all the good times coming in, it will be a great race.
