In almost every other sport the from high revenue sports to low revenue sports the number 1 seed crushes the lowest seed in the first round. Isn't there a possibility that one of the star players could be hurt in that crushing. So to me that is no different than asking runners to run more rounds.
If you are a "big" school and you don't like the fact that your athletes have to double or triple at your conference meet then come back and run at regionals, than don't double and triple at the conference meet. We see every year in big time college basketball that some of the teams are not trying to win the conference tourney because they want to be rested for March Madness and know that they will be selected. Now before you guys come back yelling about that shouldn't have to be a choice remember I am just pointing our observations.
Obviously there is a no win solution with this regional/1st round discussion. However the complaints people have are essentially what every other sport has to go through with the exception of having to pay the additional cost. So perhaps the big discussion should be that if this is the NCAA preliminary round then why isn't the NCAA picking up the tab.
