Any idea what he'll focus on this year? Since there isn't a major championship but '11 and '12 coming up will he be racing in Europe late summer, have a major US high-summer season? Is he training well and fit? Anybody have any news?

Lets talk about beating a dead horse...Its not as funny anymore since thats all that is ever mentioned with his name...was at first but the originality is gone. Webb has slimmed down considerably and is on a restrict diet...
to the OP, Salazar I believe said Webb will race in August. he is coming off an injury/surgery right now and is not in shape
He had the achilles surgery and then he got a stress fracture. He hopes to run a couple races at the end of the season. He also lost 8lbs and is getting married this fall. There's been several articles recently about him.
Thanks. I haven't been able to spend much time with T&F stuff for a few months and when I skimmed the boards looking for an update I couldn't find one. A search produces so many of the "I saw him at Taco Bell" posts that I thought I'd start a thread. Thanks for the info.

According to Salazar, Webb having come off achiles surgery in the fall/winter(?), they are hoping he can get onto the track this spring. In my honest & humble opinion, I don't think or expect him to do anything too special this summer IF he does make it onto the track, just because Salazar said theyre taking things slow, so I don't foresee him rushing Webb into anything sub 3:40/4:00 until their certain he is physically healthy and capable of sustaining the stresses on the recently recovered achiles tendon.
However, I think next year will be a good year for him to really rebuild his aerobic strength, and I think in 2011 we may start to see the Webb of old, good form. If Webb can pop out some 3:50's/3:32's in the summer of 2011, I'd say that's a safe and respectable goal. He'll still have time to get into peak shape before the Olympics, but if they screw up this summer, and Webb re-injures himself, they could be looking at putting any 2012 hopes he has in jeopardy.
If Webb gets on the track this summer, I bet he only enters into small, low-key meets, and probably only a few at most if any.
My bet is the following:
Webby will run the 5th Ave Mile and maybe another 1 or 2 low key races in 2010.
He'll race cross country next year, and will focus on the 5000 early in the season (Stanford) and the 1500 later in the season. He'll end with 3:31/13:10 season's bests.
He will drop back down to the 1500 for 2012, and train more as an 800/1500 guy.
He will win a medal in London and will run 1:43, 3:28, 3:47, 7:27 and 12:49.
I know this sounds ludicrous, but I truly believe that if he stays healthy, all the above is doable. AWebb is the single biggest talent our country has ever seen and he will end the day with PRs that are not as far off from El Gs as you might think.

Keep in mind he has already run 1:43 & 3:46. The other PR's I think are within a healthy confident Webb with a couple years of good training behind him. If ever there was an American white boy to go under 12:50, it's probably Webb. Under 7:30 as well. Trouble is despite an old 13:10 and 27:34 he's struggled at some 3K and 2 mile races.
he'll probably run a few decent races at the end of the year then as long as he stays heathly i could see him getting back to '07 levels next year and ready to dominate in '12. by the end of '12 i'd expect to see some more 1:43's, 3:28, sub-13.

People forget that the first AR he set (aside from those in the junior category) was in the 2 mile.

Coming off Achilles trouble, I'll be pretty surprised if he sets out to compete in cross country next year. The same is somewhat true for a road mile, as that can be pretty brutal on the legs. I see him having to go up in distance to mitigate injury, but that he won't have enough base to do well at longer distances. He's sort of stuck between a rock and a hard place since he's better at the shorter stuff, but isn't ready to do all the training for it.

umm odds are he won't beat his best mark, the AR in the mile. And Jim Ryun was the best talent america has ever seen, though you can make an argument for webb being (almost) as good. Btw you sure are optimistic considering Webb has been running like shit for a few good years now. And he isn't exactly young so I don't see him beating many of his prs below 5000 meters...
Man remember that kid who ran a 3:53 in hs?.... oh, how good he could have been..........
He made the 2 mile cool again (for that brief period)
For Webb, 2010 doesn't matter - that is the truth.
my god that 3:53 still blows my mind every single time I think about it. Like a current moderately good high schooler runs 4:20 ish in the mile. A stand out runs 4:16-20. 4:10-4:15 is pretty darn good. Anything below 4:10 is generally incredible and then sub 4 is ridiculous. Webb was 7 seconds under 4. No doubt Ryun was incredibly talented but Webb i think has to be considered pretty darn close.

The 1:43 and 3:46 were many moons ago. He needs to get get healthy and have a solid injury free 6 months training. I think more realistic goals would be break 3:40, at least at the start. Take it slow.
This is the tamest most reasonable thread about Webb I have ever read on letsrun.... have the letsrunner's lost their ability to troll on and on about Webb?

Yes, this year is a recovery year, and getting used to being married year for Webb. He may well decide enough is enough and move on with his life into something else.
Wait a minute it is nearly June and he has not run yet. I say this is his third wash out season in a row. Holman was more consistent than this. He is now so far behind Scott and Spivey it is ridiculous. Remember, when Spivey was Webb's current age he got a WC bronze.
Just when the hell is he coming back? He's essentially been out of commission since 2007.
