Lets all cut the crap. The African women suck at the marathon, and none of them will get within 2 minutes of Paula's world record. The marathon requires more than talent. The African women won't put in the work, they race tactically (to win, not to gut it out for records), and they don't have the resources that Paula has.

wait until the african meaning kenyan/ethiopian woman put their big guns in the marathon intheir prime, the ethiopian woman who i would consider their big guns who are doing the marathon, gete wami, berhane adere, derartu tulu were all past their prime when they ran their first marathon, if runners like tirunesh dibaba, meseret defar, vivian cheruiyiot, linet masai, mary keitany and more run a marathon in the next 5 years, they will dominate the marathon as they do cross country, it is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when.
So true douglas burke so true. In my opinion Paula Radcliffe was the first women to tackle the marathon who had the potential to go under the 30 minute barrier. Ingrid came close back in the 80's but she reached her peak in the 10000m.
Paula once she started marathon training increased her endurance tremendously and ran a solo track 30:01 10000m but never really got another chance at the sub 30 minute barrier. If runners that douglas b mentioned Linet Masai, Vivan C, Tirunesh Dibaba, Elvan Abeleygesse etc all who have already or are capable of going well under the 30 minute barrier tackle the marathon in their prime great things would happen.
In their prime any of those four women could threaten Paula Radcliffe WR within 3-4 years of moving to the marathon in their prime!
Mary Keitany I think will come close (within 60-80 secs) after a few attempt but unless she improve 3000-10000m track speed she may fall short unless her speed decay is even better than I imagine!
Let's face it: most women's World Records won't be broken within the next 30 years for Olympic distances:
100m Florence Griffith-Joyner 10:49s 1988 (!)
200m Florence Griffith-Joyner 21:34s 1988 (!)
400m Marita Koch 47:60 1985 (!)
800m Jarmila Kratochvílová 1:53 1983 (!)
1500m Qu Yunxia 3:50 1993
5000m Tirunesh Dibaba 14:11min 2008
10000m Wang Junxia 29:31min 1993
Marathon Paula Radcliffe 2:15:25 2003
8 distances - Half the records are from the 80's, 2 from the 90's, two within the last 10 years and we only saw one record with the last 5. Compare that with the excitement going on in the men's races.
Now for sprint and middle distances everyone knows how dirty they are - most likely all with male growth hormones etc. And we don't need to talk about Wang Junxia.
That leaves that list with two performances that may be clean. And I don't believe it.
And yet, even dirty, all those "pro" women's records are on par with high school boys. Except Paula's, simply because of the years needed to work up to a marathon.
The 5000m was just set two years ago. It and the 10000m will both go soon.

Oh, so that's the excuse now, eh? Watch the African women race the marathon. They sit on whoever's shoulder and kick the last bit. Age doesn't matter with women's marathoning.
BTW, why is a single middle aged man in Southern California befriending almost exclusively young African women? Creepy.

Like Gezahegn Abera, one of the greatest of all-time?
I said African women. They don't race like the men. Watch them. They have the deer in the headlights look, like they aren't really trained or prepared for the marathon (or at least not to the extent of Paula, Deena, Russians, Asians). They sit and kick, not running out front with confidence and going for fast times. Maybe it's sociological or they're not built for the marathon. Again, you can't do it on talent alone. You have to put in the work.

Logically I'd agree. Those two records are en par when looking at calculators.
But: the 2nd fastest 10000m time of all times is 29:53, more than 20sec outside of the world record. So pretty much 1s per lap. Don't see that going away anytime soon.
Also only 5 women ever ran sub30. In other words came as close or close than 30s outside of the WR.
No - she can't break Paula's record.
Paula Radcliffe ran her 8'22" AFTER her marathon training, and in a race where it took a 2 years younger Szabo running her PB to beat her by less than a second. And escamotage? (means subterfuge) Sorry but that's a cheap shot.
Anyone notice how slow Paula is lately? Look at Paula's 1:45:33 30k split. Compare that to Amane Gobena 1:40:57 and Ayanu Workitu 1:40:56. I'm a big fan of the ethiopians marathoners. Clearly they faster than Paula slowish slut bag Paula ever will be.
Mary Keitany is a record breaker. If she runs 10000 meters she'll break meselech melkamu record. Get Keitany to run 10000 meters and 10 miles. I hope Keitany get the 10000 meters and 10 miles record.
First off I think there at LEAST five to six women capable of running sub 30 minutes for the track 10000m within the next 2 years if that was their MAIN goal. Mary could be one of them if she focused on improving her 1500m and 5000m speed tremedously which she hasn't focused on in a very long time.
Mary is more of racer to me; however, in her 1/2 marathons she hasn't really had anyone to push her so she run solo to fast times. In the World Best 10km this year she raced to an eventually 2nd place (beaten by Ethiopian track runner) finish bettering her road pb signifcantly. If Mary had someone to push her the last two years in the 1/2 marathon I think she could of lowered the WR.
Now with the marathon training maybe we will see some of her personal best destroyed. I would have her taper off/ add alittle speed work for a couple track- June/July races and return to marathon training late August. No doubt she could improve her 5000m and 10000m within that time and return to marathon training all the better.

Your attempts at becoming the new master troller on LR are just pathetic. Face it - you will never be the new 430miler.
It's ridiculous how 30 new ethiopians are breaking Paula's 2:29:27 record!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Paula never race against them causes she's never in action wasting time getting pregnant. Paula only run nyc cause no ethiopians want to run a slowish stupid course.
I think in Mary Keitany marathon debut she'll break the 30k world record. She'll run 1:37:55.
Paula Radcliffe only ran 2:29:27. That's not a record.
