The new big mazungo
The new big mazungo
How far did the leaders have to run while lapping guys? How much time did this add to the final times?
He wasn't "ushered" back on to the track. He was exhausted at the finish, started heading off the track, and walked over to Solinsky and shook his hand. He was no doubt disappointed, but he exhibited perfect sportsmanship. He is the video of what I just described:http://www.flotrack.org/videos/coverage/view_video/236854-2010-payton-jordan-cardinal-invitational/331135-chris-solinksy-ar-finish

After his finish, Rupp was leaving the track, then was ushered back across the track and grudgingly touched Chris' hand and took off.
Not a happy camper but who could blame him?
I've always thought Solinsky was remarkable to be where he is. I mean he's got a REALLY big build for a true distance runner. In this age where the sport is so finely tuned, its incredible because every other guy who has ever run that fast has got to be literally 20-30 pounds lighter at least.

You're an idiot. You're right, Rupp wasn't ushered, he was PUSHED to Solinski and offered him a weak handshake. Classless. Look at the videpo then get your eyes checked.

Really. This should actually be pretty embarrassing to him.
Look at the video. Rupp walks off the track; then he turns without anyone touching him whatsoever; as he's walking toward Solinsky, Jerry Schumacher offers a brief congratulations to Rupp by way of a pat on the back; and then Rupp shakes Solinsky's hand. What in this description is mistaken? Also, notice how I managed to say all of this without calling anyone an "idiot."

I admit it doesn't look as bad as I originally thought. It still looks like Jerry says something to him because suddenly his head whips around and he changes his mind and heads over to Solinsky. Still don't like Rupp's image/behavior/style/whatever and would much rather support someone like Solinsky
Of course, no one knows what was said, if anything was, but does anyone imagine that Schumacher said to Rupp that he should go over and congratulate Solinsky?

I can't imagine that a professional coach would tell a professional runner, that he does not coach, to go congratulate another runner. This isn't high school.

Yes.

btw, can anyone link that interview-video with that coach in the grren jacket, where Rupp sneaks into the background?
I think you mean Famington.

Well, he is one of the Nike coaches. But I suspect Jerry just said something to Rupp that was congratulatory ("good run," perhaps) that snapped Rupp out of his own little world and reminded him that yes, that's what athletes are supposed to do after the race and that prompted him to go over to Solinsky. Because Rupp did have that odd look on his face like he just got reminded of something.

oh ya 26:59 10k doesn't mean shit, cause he did it in a time trial instead of a championship. pussy
That is the point. It does mean shit. And when you achieve something like that it means for all intents and purposes you had been training your whole life for that kind of performance. Just because he hadn't raced at that particular distance doesn't make it more incredible. He had obviously been doing a ton of mileage which effectively was preparing him for a 10K race like that even though his focus was on the 10K.
so, if solinsky runs 26'15 this year on the circuit, it doesn't mean shit ?
What a great race. I'm happy for Chris. We're from the same town, he was two years older than me in high school.
I always cheer for him now.

Doesn't mean shit? It means a whole lot more than if Solinsky had run something mediocre. Remember, he didn't go out there to break the American Record, he just went out there to race, so why criticize him?
Your kind of thinking only oppresses US distance running. Why shouldn't an American run fast in early May? We need to be having more big meets in America with more big names and fast times. US runners need to stop being afraid to compete against each other on our own soil. That inner competition will only push us farther.
Would it have been better if he had run this time in a championship race? Maybe. That doesn't mean he won't run the same or faster at the next World's or Olympics.

I personally didn't get to lap a lot of people BITD, but when I did I was always happy when they just stuck to the curb and let me go around.
I personally thought the dick move occurred at around 24:00-24:10 in the race footage (http://www.flotrack.org/videos/coverage/view_video/236854-2010-payton-jordan-cardinal-invitational/331184-m-10k-f01-ar-2659-2010-payton-jordan). #60 goes 3 wide to try pass Chelanga, trips him up in the process, and then tries to run with the leaders.

Will the real Jerry Schumacher please stand up??? I watched the video several times and I believe Pascal Dobert is being confused for Jerry...or was that actually Anthony Farmington already in street clothes giving the uplifting hugs?
