my bad Virgina or whatev, in either case it was a MAJOR stompage. I'm actually glad I had the wrong school in the previous post because he got beat so bad that it should be said several times. ANDREWS CRUNCHED WHEATING IN THE KICK!!!!!!!!
I hat to say I told you so.
Wheating showed that his late training start this season hasn't gotten him as sharp as he needs to be for tough competition. Of course for Wheating this was his first weekend of racing for the season and he did run on Friday; whereas Andrews was purposely kept fresh for his one race. Were I an Andrews fan, I'd be happy for him, but I wouldn't be getting carried away quite yet. Let's wait and see if he can run a 1:45, because that is what he will need to do to win at Outdoor NCAA's this year. For that matchup, it will be Andrews travelling all the way cross country and competing in his opponents' backyard. If he does it there, I'll get a little more excited about him.
I was sitting behind Wheating's parents at the meet. They thought he was running the 1200 and Centrowitz was running the mile. Glad to see they switched and he looked easy as hell.
Even Komen wouldn't be 'jogging' through a 59... think of your 3k PR, and running that pace for a lap... are you jogging? If the WR holder isn't jogging for a lap at that pace, nobody is haha.
I had 55-63-60-60
or 55-60-63-60
lost a second but I was across track
Should've run 4:01, haha
Laalou ran 3:55.9 to catch- so saying the split of the race is 3;59.x is disingenuous.
Shirley you jest.
People all develop at different rates. At 20, when Wheating ran his 1:45.03 pb, Coe's 800 best (only a season after switching from mainly 1500) was similar, 1:44.95, but he was already European Junior Champion.
Wheating is 22 now. If he's going to emulate Coe, the he'd better get a move on, as 22 was the age Coe ran 1:42 & broke 3 World Records.
To compare him to Coe, the greatest middle distance runner of all time (if you're talking about 800-Mile, as opposed to 1500-5000m) is a little unfair and puts way too much pressure on the guy.
To be fair, I didn't see Wheating's run. But when Hall ran a 3:43 at Stanford, everyone said he wasn't going all out. He never ran faster again. Wish I had a penny for each comment like that.
In a 1600M, a runner can run the 1st 1400M going 100%. But when it's time to kick, go 1.0-1.5 seconds slower in the last 200M, and be fine, while hardly breathing.

Exactly, reminds me of the 10k where Bekele almost lost. Dropped with 500 to go then comes back and runs a 55 second lap or so, blowing away the competition, and doesn't even look winded afterwards.
Wheating splits were around
27.3, 28.3, 30.3, 30.5, 32.0, 31.8, 30.0, 29.7
The best part when one of the guys was like "anyone get a split on him" and then a girl was like 55...and he was like "huh?.......was it?" then another guy is like "thad be quick". Then the other guy sort of ignores the girls split and takes his own splits from 400m into the 1600m leg.
Several posts have been made by the OP under a different handle. What is it you want ? To make us think that AW has fans or what ? Are you that queer for him ?
Interesting fact. Both Andrew Wheating and Alan Webb have the same initials and neither one of them is going to win a medal.

Hey, he has a great shot in 2012, or at least 4 years later in 2016!

Part of me thinks this will be the deal with Wheating too - he's obviously a phenomenal talent, and with the right training, could certainly go faster. I wonder though, if he's losing top end as he puts in more traditional mid-D training. Kid would not have lost to Robby when he was 20, I'm pretty confident. There's plenty of evidence to suggest that mileage will take some speed out of your legs - no doubt Wheating is stronger today and better aerobically, but maybe he's lost some speed. Time for the guy to get back to plyometrics and cut way down on volume?
When he was 20 he would have benn trounced by ANdrews. Trust me hes better now than he was when he was 20, but HE IS NOT A WINNER!!!! I tired of telling you people this. He is the best second place finisher I know, if its any consolation.
