its looks like CENTRO is listed on the 4x800, he'll be the big question mark after running the mile. plus he's capable of a fast time, but hasn't run one yet.

Race of the weekend.
3rd leg blew it for PSU... ran 50.x for first 400.
can't blame foster for getting after it.. he would have been closer if he didn't have to book it to latch onto andrews and wheating.
andrews ran SMART! he had the lead and ran controlled at 55 knowing wheating or Foster would try and blow by him. Hell of race. Jersey represent!
Andrews lets Foster by on the inside... HA! "Be my guest...Mr. Meal Ticket!"
One of the best relays EVER

PSU's second leg, Cas Loxsom, had the fastest split of the day in 1:46.58. He is just a freshman and will be a world beater one day.
I hate to say it but big dogs win big races. Andrews is a big dog, so is Vig, so is Wheating, so is Lananna. Did you really think penn st was going to beat those guys? It would have been a nice story but penn state has great conference level runners, not going to beat Vig or Andrews or oregon.
Also, whats with the penn state anchor and his sweat band? I hate when people want to be the wackiest or craziest runner. How bout just trying to be the best runner? Does Andrews wear wacky socks or sweatbands or whatever? No. He's from Jersey so he wears a gold chain. Does Wheating wear wacky socks or sweatbands? No. He just runs.
Just another reason why penn st wasnt going to win that race. Its a mindset.
I think a successful 800m needs to have the mentality of a long distance runner. Wait. Wait. Wait. Then unleash. There is no need to make up a 40-50m gap in the first 40 meters like Foster did.

Foster ran like a f***ing idiot at NCAAs and it appeared that he overcompensated in his adjustment and screwed PSU any chance of the win on the first lap.
Williams, lets just say he's lucky that Harry wasn't coach -- that would have been a hell of a ruckus in the woodshed.
Loxsom, the freshman, was the only one who acted like he's been there before.

I agree that it's tough to win relays without a "big dog," but to suggest the PSU team was made up of "conference level" runners is ridiculous. Foster and Dawson were AAs indoors and Loxsom was an auto qualifier (got sick at the end of season so didn't run well) but is now back to running at a very high level, evidenced by his running the fastest split of anyone today (not indicative that he is the best, but indicates he is more than a "conference level" guy).
Williams really blew it for PSU. He got out too hard and ended up paying for it. It would have been interesting to see how things would have shaken out had Foster gotten the baton even with Andrews and Wheating.
penn states 3rd leg is not to blame. Lets say foster gets the baton in first with weating and Andrews right behind him, do you really think he holds off those two? hell no. the only way penn st wins is if they give the anchor a huge lead and thats not happening at penn.

well said, I agree. it only worked for that idiot from stanford and I think he was last seen getting mugged in mexico on his bike.
it was a reference to when Vig won all 3 at Texas. I like the ducks and I hate Vig but that Em Effer can coach. The 4X8 was the big distance race of the meet and he won it. I wouldnt be shocked at all if Virginia wins the triple at Penn in a year or two.
we won the other two but who cares, the big showdown was the 4X8.

In the minds of the fans, certainly the big showdown was the 4x8. That's not how Oregon approached it. They came to win all three, Vig came to win one. Full props to Andrews, Vig and UVA for winning the one and only one they could play in. Let's just keep everything in perspective. All of UVA was fresh, and still Oregon gave them everything they could handle with Greer coming off injury, Fleet running three races (brilliantly), and Wheating running two.
NCAA's is going to be wild!
Vig already won all 3 a few years ago, no biggie. He wanted to win the 4X8 because it was the biggest event of the meet this year. Wheating getting outkicked again, are you kidding me? I know Lananna loved that, hahahahahahahaha.
If oregon rested or not the result of the 4X8 is the same, Robby Andrews outkicks Wheating.

Foster was only 10 meters behind at the handoff.
I wouldn't be too hard on PSU. I'm sure they figured they would need a good lead going into the last leg, and that's tough to do. In retrospect, it would have been interesting if Dawson and Williams had been flip-flopped. Williams is probably better at the start and would have had pacing help. Dawson was just about in last place at the start and had a lot of traffic to get by. To his credit, he fought through it and handed off first, but I wouldn't be surprised if it cost him close to a second.
Robby Andrews is a heckuva kicker, though. He's fun to watch. He'll look real good in a USA uniform in a few years. And the rest of his team deserves a lot of credit for getting him the stick in first.

Agreed...Foster got the stick in perfect position, about 10 meters behind the leaders....he just didn't get it done. Major props to the first and second legs on the 4x800 they ran like men. The PSU DMR and 4XMile squads were an absolute disgrace - it's hard to believe that bailed on those races to load up on the 4x800.....Borchers ran ok on the DMR but ran like a JV girl on the 4xmile....what a sad state of affairs
Borchers ran 2:56 on the DMR. That's a lot better than OK. And I think he was around 4:09-4:10 in the 4xmile. Not his best but not bad really. Maybe went out a little hard trying to make up ground.

Good post. Spot on.
