About a month after the Philly Distance Run (which has now become an RnR event), there is a race I think you'd like: a 25k that's been $25 for several years: a dollar per k!It's along a bike path, so there are mile markers (actually also 1/4 and 1/2 mile markers). You never have more than a couple hundred people. Low-key but sufficient food (usually pretzels, bagels, and some kind of fruit) and no-frills awards (certificates for a.g. awards--but how many more medals and plaques do people need?). You get a long sleeve mock turtleneck t-shirt. And three water stops which doesn't seem like a lot but this is an out-and-back course, so you actually have six stops. These stops have water: gels and sports drinks=strictly BYO.No great big expo, no bands on the course (occasional hair rubber bands dropped here and there, but otherwise...), and great camaraderie because mostly the same people seem to return year after year. While I admit I enjoy some aspects of the bigger race in Sept., but I LOVE the smaller event: everything you need in a race, no extras, and more miles for your money!

When I see the words Rock and Roll in the name, I don't even think about running the event.
Just give me a few hundred good runners, an accurate course with accurate mile markers, and a couple cookies at the finish!!! That can easily be done for $35.
