Mt. Sac 2010 - Puma Mile

There's only ONE woman?! The way it was described in a previous post, I assumed it would be about half women, half men, which I think would be more exciting.

Wow. Only one woman really takes away from it all. Who the hell is she racing? The clock. It's a time trial for her and race for the guys. Very odd.

Also, I don't think I've seen the answer, and I'm too lazy to look it up, but does the sponsorship go to the first one across the line, regardless of gender? With only one woman, I'd guess this is the plan.

5 sub-4 guys, should be a tight race.

So a corporate sponsorship is on the line for those competing?

Let's toss in Jordan Hasay and see if they can give her a run for her money.

bummer. i submitted an entry, but i guess my 3:55 mile from 1995 wasn't what they were looking for:) i was willing to bet any takers that i wouldn't get last...

This is about as close to to reality television you will find in track and field.

David Torrence, Cal grad, won it last year. There was a one-year Puma sponsorship on the line. It wasn't a huge deal - clothes, shoes, some travel and entry fee money - but it WAS a deal with a shoe company.

He summarily turned it down and signed with Nike. I think the deal then went to Tim Bayley who was 2nd. You can find it on Flotrack I'm sure.

Since they announced that there was a women's field later than they announced the men's field, entries for the women are still being reviewed/accepted.

It will be two full fields.

A full women's field could be a pain for the men's field. I can't imagine 24 people in the field...

Since you seem to be in the know, who gets the sponsorship deal? First across the line, or are there two deals on the line - one for men, one for women?

One sponsorship on the line. Women get a 29 second head start - the difference between the Men's and Women's American records.
