How does Creatine affect runners, anyone know?
creatine is nothing more than a high energy phosphate source- i.e. phosphorylates adp's to atp's- therefore, one can surmise that it only helps out those events that are 45 sec or less. However, if one is trying to acquire some power, it is beneficial in getting those last 2 extra reps on the bench or whatever. Unfortunately, from the studies that I am acquainted with, it only has a performance enhancing effect in 50% of those tested. In addition, one Italian trial found that there was an increased biproduct of formaldehyde (of all things!) found in the system.
50% probability is fair high enough though.
karangasem.
Everything I've read and heard from those who use it said it benefits those activities that require explosive power.
Doesn't it make you retain water and make your cheeks rounder like you have mumps all the time...Sammy Sosa...
True about only helping with power/short-duration stuff. If you race over 200-400m don't bet on it helping your running. However if you need to build strength to get faster in the mid-distance it could help you by getting a harder workout on the last couple reps (as mentioned before). I'd decribe it as the sprinter's equivalent of distance runner's EPO (but not illegal or as potent).
