I won some prize money in a low-key race in Australia. I tried to cash the cheque, but apparently you need a bank account to do that. Apparently the cheque needs to be specifically authorized to allow it to be cashed without an account.
Is there any way to cash the cheque without a bank account?
The bank told me I couldn't sign the money over to one of my friends and have them deposit it in their account. Is that true?

have no answer to the OP`s question, but if you are from the US it might be worth calling your bank in the US and ask if you can cash in the cheques there.
Australian Cheque= high bounce potential.
I finally managed to cash the cheque. Contrary to what the bank told me, I was able to deposit the money into a friend's account after I endorsed it. Thanks for the help.
