Is it possible to train for and run a quality track 10,000 and a marathon within 4 weeks of each other. Goal times of 29:45 and 2:21:59. Or are the two events so different that to try and train for both would hurt results in both?

of course it's possible. maybe not for you, but for someone.
A week prior to the 1982 Boston Marathon, Alberto Salazar ran a time of 27:30 in a 10000 meter challenge race in Eugene. Then he did 2:08:52 in the famous "Duel In the Sun" at Boston -- a tough course.
I saw Shorter at the philly distance run and he said, based on the way he trained, on any race day he could have pr'ed in the 5k or the marathon. but thats Frank Shorter
