Those SUNYAC results are weird. 800 is won in 1:58, Guarino and Berube get 6th and 7th in the 1500? What were the conditions like and how did the races play out?

Incredibly windy, pretty cold it was probably around 50, and slight drizzle at points.
The 1500 was one of the weirdest races I've ever seen. Guarino completely stopped 200 meters in to put his shoe back on, then sprints back to first by the 300. Throws a ridiculous kick at 400 to go, then at 100 to go gets caught by Mantelow and decides to completely shut down and jog while most of the field passed him.
But yeah there were gusts of wind up to 50 mph or thereabouts so most races went out slow.

Very tactical races on day 2. Not sure about exact 800m splits, but it was slow for the first 400. 1500m splits went like 67/68-65/66-63-58-60 for the leaders.
Very heavy winds on the 3rd and 4th turns and heavy winds blowing toward the 100m start down the front stretch. Wind speeds constantly 25-30, gusts to 50. 50 degrees and rain at times. Was watching lighter distance guys get almost blown over in the 5k at points. Hilarious.
the 800 was very weird, going out that slow and then seeing who had the kick at the end. the top 4 pulled away from everyone with 150 to go, then it was the winds pulling everyone back. it was funny to watch them all kick and just go absolutely no where
why is there so much talk about Gino from cortland in the 400? he didn't even show up to run yesterday. my money is on Allen in the 400 at Nats
the 1500 was agreeable a weird, weird race. if Guarino is anywhere near the front of the pack (which i'm sure he will be) it will be interesting to see who has the faster kick, Ty Griffin or him
"Patrick may not seem like he knows what he's doing, but just about every one of his athletes (throughout ever event) has improved. How has Seamus Nally become a professional runner if he was "broken"? How has Gino Bisceglia gone from a good high school runner to a nationally top ranked sprinter?
Even if Steve Patrick doesn't know what he's doing, he brings in the people who do know, such as C. Fred Joslyn (Distance), and Marques Dexter (National Assistant Jumps Coach of the year?)"
Since the new coach took over the program it looks as if things just hit the fan since they won NCAAs(on a team that their old coach brought in and trained). From the looks of it their top guys didn't even run for him indoors or out. Sad to see the program not live on... those guys were dominant against everyone a couple of years back. Best of luck to them moving forward in their running careers. And good luck to Seamus Nally with strands.

First, I understand that the race was run under pretty lousy conditions.
Second, I understand that he stayed in the race after having to stop to put his shoe back on.
Third, I understand that he also ran the 800 meter not long before the 1500.
Forth, I understand that he still scored several points for his team (a team that was not in contention for the title) in the 1500 .
Fifth, I understand that he probably was still one of the top point scoring athletes on his team.
I'd say he's got balls to stay in a 1500 meter race after losing his shoe. I give him credit for staying in the race.
The 800 was after the 1500....he was in the lead of the 1500 by 10 meters with 100 to go, he had about a 50 meter lead on berube with 100 meters to go, he gave up. Also he yelled like a little girl at the end of the 800.

Lousy conditions yes. Did he have to put his shoe back on? Yes.
By the way--He put his shoe back on while the field was running 70 sec pace in the first 300m of the race. He immediately went to the lead after that. He did not even get dropped by the pack when he was doing it. He used minimal effort to get back up to the front--as evidenced by the fact that he stayed there effortlessly and took off like a bat out of hell with 400 to go.
The pack of runners came through with 400 to go together at around 3:01 total time. He ran a 25 sec 200, hit the wind on the turn, started to slow and the field caught up to him. Just before he was passed he appeared to tie up, then he jogged in. His total time for the last 400: 66/67. With a generous 27 second first 200 (which is VERY generous--by the splits in the race b/c the brockport guy ran something like 27 for the first 200 of that last lap), this makes his last 200 around a 40 (and likely higher). Considering that Nick ran just over 15mins for 5K earlier in the year--I would say that 40-43 second 200 pace is pretty much a jog (at 6 seconds slower per 200 than 5K pace).
Also, he ran 800m trials the day before the race. The 800m was after the 1500m.
46.7? Really? What leg? I am fairly certain if he can split 46.7'ish he should be able to run 47 low in the open... and he is not even close to that. Why do people insist he is so damn good? He didn't even win the open 400 at his conference meet!

Exactly...he's not even the best 400 runner in SUNYAC, but people have him winning nats? Makes no sense!
WTF is SUNYAC and why r u ppl care?
Stop hatin' on the G-man, he's a great guy
Im sick of this 1500 talk, someone give me some well-founded predictions for the 5 and 10k. Who gets AA, who can double well, who benefits from a tactical vs fast race. Let's make this thread a little more interesting.

Flynn wins both
Berube is going to win the 5k....he made up 50 meters on guarino on the last lap at SUNYACs. Guarino outkicked the NCAA mile field, berube out kicked him. So obvi berube can win the mile at NCAAs and with his strength no one can be close
Prediction? Peter Najem.
Event? Doesn't matter. He's my dark horse for the triple jump in addition to both of his usual events.
Yes, as shown by both of his races indoors he has the strongest kick in the field.
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
