No wonder Wheating doesn't live in the track house with the Oregon Boys Choir runners. He is a stud!

That was an awful joke, you should be banned for that.
Good job by Wheating but, he's getting credit because the other runners didn't run well. Lets not give this Oregon athlete too much credit, after he's from Oregon.

I like Ulrey but he sure ran a dumb race. He's got to be kicking himself now -- ran a 4:03 to Wheating's 4:01. It was Ulrey's race to lose and he lost it. Guess he was trying to save something for tomorrow but had he run 4:00 (not a tall order) Arkansas would have won the DMR and he'd be fired up for the 3K.
There are a lot of guys on this board who seemed to underestimate wheatings talent, maybe on purpose. Perhaps after his 3:35 in Europe last summer Ulrey thought he was the class of the mile field, and next to Wheating he was.
Anyone who can run 3:58, 3:38 & 1:45 (and makes the oly team)in his 3rd ever track season is a damn talented runner.
A bad day for wheating is racing sick or injured and getting no worse than 2nd at NCAA's. And that's while still a greenhorn in competition.
The guy missed 8 months of racing and opens up indoors in 1:46.low with an easy win. To let a guy like that back into the race on the DMR is definite head scratcher. The second Wheating caught that group Ulrey should have blasted out of there.

In my opinion, wheating's 800 pr is as long overdue as rupps outdoor 5K. He ran that 1:45 by hanging back way too long and running in the outside of lane 2. If he goes to europe for 800 he could skip 1:44.

And Michael Coe should probably go and hide. If that was his decision to run like that, it was just cowardly. The guy has a 3:56 mile to his name. WTF did he do that for.
MC ran the 2nd slowest split...nearly 10 seconds off his PR?
He is now officially a headcase....

That was set before he was injured by someone falling on his leg in 2009 outdoors. Has he done something since that indicates he's in, or near, 3:56 shape? Not that I'm aware of.
while Coe's strategy looked foolish, it actually makes a little bit of sense. I was at MPSF and saw Coe anchor the leg and he tried to take it out hard and hold on. And he got rolled on at the end by UCLA, Bethke, and Ferris. So he may have been trying to avoid that again letting Ulrey set the pace.Plus he races again tomorrow. Still, letting Wheating get back into it and running that passively was pretty lame. Coe is not in good form right now simple as that.
Wheating was amazing. I swear it looks like he is doing an easy jog the first lap of the 800, or the first 2 of the mile indoors.
Coe hasn't regained his form from last year, I agree. I'd bet he thought Ulrey would pick up the pace to bury Wheating and everyone else, making it a two man race, and Coe could sit there, draft in second, and hopefully have enough at the end to beat a tired Ulrey who had to go wire-to-wire.
Had this paid off, everyone would be praising Coe. It was a good bet to take, and the only chance for a national championship. The guy went for the win, not settling to a second behind a guy as talented as Ulrey. If I were a Cal athlete, I'd be praising the guy for his guts; he was willing to make a difficult decision and go for the championship.
Wheating did not win the race, Ulrey lost it. When he starts winning championships, instead of benefitting from other people's stumbles, then we'll talk
Wheating crossed the line first. He WON. Hahahaha in your face!!!! Wheating Wheating Wheating!
Did anyone see UCLA and ASU throw away the race in the first leg, I knew the pac-10 was full of imposters
well their 400 runner didn\'t give much help.. Their whole team sucked actually

Who's to say Wheating wouldn't have just run 359 then?
Oh, he certainly could have. But wouldn't you have liked Ulray's chances much better had he pushed the pace all 8 laps? Wheating had run an 800 a few hours before whereas Ulray was completely fresh. I believe Arkansas should have won that race and Ulray just blew it. But look for him to run great in the 3K.
I'm no tactical wizard, but even I saw something strange about how the leaders handled the 1600. Ulrey looked like he wanted to sit behind the lead until the end, but when I saw Wheating creeping up I knew he had a battle. Overall, it a cool race, but not like any DMR I've ever watched.

I thought Ulrey really blew this one last night. Maybe he's still busy "listening to the crowd" cheer him from SEC's. Time to grow up Dorian.
This is the same message board that had so much praise for the TN DMR anchor who ran smart and had plenty of kick left at the end to defeat Hassay.
Coe lets the field come back in (perhaps thinking that he would use the extra energy for his kick) and he is an idiot.
TN runner lets Hasay catch up, uses her extra energy for a kick and she is a genius.
EMU ran an amazing race! All Americans!!!!
"EMU ran a dumb race"
no sir! EMU went out there and competed with the big schools. FEARLESS.

Ulrey was carrying an Oregon monkey on his back, remembering last year I'm sure. And you may be right about SEC's. They put so much focus on conference they are bound to drain the adrenal gland a bit much that close to the real show.
I can only imagine the thoughts of Coe and Ulrey when they looked up at the board and saw the huge Wheating easily making his way up to the main pack and then just jogging. Perhaps Ulrey was thinking about leading hard and having Coe sit on him and Rupp him up on the last lap, and Coe was thinking why should I lead a 3:35 guy on his home track?
Personally I wish they had pushed a 3:57 to see what Wheating could be stretched out to.
