You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Anyone close to the finishline did not see that happen and you're clearly an FSU "higher-up" trying to deface a college kid's character.

The video does NOT show leeder trying to cut in. the argument that Leeder cut in too early is false.
Huh? The video linked earlier, on youtube, clearly shows him coming around and then going back to the rail. The push comes instantly. No time for Mulherin to accelerate and then push as someone suggested. The back he pushed just suddenly appears within range. To me, that means the cut to the rail was done too soon.
This is why everybody thinks we're a bunch of pussies, one moment of some rough competition and people crying foul. Mulherin would've fit in perfectly in the '70s. That beard, the luxurious hair, the grit he puts into a race. He runs like a MAN and ensures to let you know he owns the territory he claims as his in the race. Trespassers will be dealt with by way of force.
I give a major kudos to Mulherin. He got DQ'd but he still owned everybody in that race.

You would not have seen it if you were at the finish line because it occurred in the warm-up area, behind the media area on the first turn, near the clerking area. And another VT athlete was trying to hold back Mulherin and appologizing to the FSU coach at the same time. Also, it was witnessed by an VT alum as outlined in a previous post who appologized for the action, so please don't try to say someone is defacing or slandering the athlete's character. His character was clearly on display in the warm-up area.
the man cant keep the truth from rising
homestretch observer. you are full of it. mulherin never said anything of the sort to ANY FSU ATHLETES OR OFFICIALS. just because someone writes they are a vt alumn on letsrun doesn't mean anything, no one on this thread has the balls to reveal their true identity. My guess is the "vt alum" is actually you...again...trying to spread slander about mulherin and his teammates. I was back near the media area the entire time you claim this supposedly happened...as mulherin and his teammates exited to leave the building....and after they left...and never heard him say anything. I did hear Braman saying some pretty unprofessional things about VT and their coaching staff. No need to get into details, but I would say many in the acc have lost respect for him after this incident.
lolwut?
Lost respect for Braman, or Mulherin, or any of the other coaches involved? Hardly.
In the heat of intense competition, probably all of us have reacted strongly. It is difficult to blame any of the involved parties for their behavior. We can understand their reactions, but shouldn't condone such out of line behavior even in the heat of battle.
Lost respect would be relevent after the competition, when one sits back and reflects on how we have reacted and behaved.
While both sides can still believe their position is correct, I would hope they also have looked back and wished they had handled themselves a little different.

And just because you say you were in the area as well doesn't make it true. You're ragging on others for not revealling their identity but you won't either. The only unprofessional comments made by any coaching staff members were the ones VT Asst Coach McGranahan directed towards Coach Braman.
Look, I understand what you are trying to say here. But to say amateur athletes shouldn't be criticized or held to standards because they don't sign on a dotted line is crap. I have learned through many sports from a very young age that you respect the sport, the game, and the competitors. Showboating after a win because you are "passionate" or trying to upstage competitors or coaches or referees or anybody is completely disrespectful and unnecessary. I was not there, do not know what happened so I cannot specifically comment on what went down. But if any of the stuff is true about any of the athletes and the coaches then you cannot just brush it off as passion. It is all about respect - of the meet and the competitors.
I've noticed on the Letsrun poll on the front page that the 'yes' votes for DQ are growing but the 'no' votes still have a dominant majority.
I remain in the minority and still agree with the DQ.

Leeder never tired to cut in. Mulherin's arm went right, not forward. A completely illegitimate move. You can protect your space. But Leeder never entered Mulherin's space. Look at the video, Leeder did not step in on Mulherin, he didn't have time. The elbow was thrown while Leeder was to Mulherin's right.
This is part of a pattern for Mulherin. He pushed Fout down earlier in the race and threw and elbow at Ryan Collins last spring in the 5k.
A dirty racer.
If he did indeed swear at coaches, he also lacks class. But what should we expect from the university that gave the world the Vicks?

That's what I was thinking as I read the whole thread. People are expecting class from a person related to Virginia Tech athletics. That's a pretty tall order for Blacksburg these days.

I don't think Florida State and Virginia Tech want to compare their former athletes rap sheets. It won't come out well for either university. Florida State
did just get hit with major NCAA penalties(self-imposed if you will) including the loss of an NCAA Track Championship. I'm still trying to figure out how you get caught for cheating on an on-line music class.
Stay Classy Tallahassee
P.S. Extremely jealous that while your teams are battling for the 3k title and the ACC Title, my team can't qualify anyone in the fast heat of the 3k
Here is a 6 shot sequence of what happened.
This is not some rick roll link.
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/5506/sequencesmall.jpg
From left to right. Top to bottom.
1.) Leeder and Mulherin stride for stride.
2.) Mulherin raising hand and striking Leeder.
3.) Leeder being knocked off stride.
4.) Leeder regaining composure and Mulherin pushing him again.
5.) Leeder again knocked off stride.
6.) Mulherin squaring up to push Leeder the final time.
Also evidenced in this photo is the fact that the "elbow" that Leeder supposedly threw is his arm swinging forward not out - how the kid runs. This is shown in pictures 1 and 2.
You got the shot order wrong. Look at the markings on the track, and the back of the bleacher trackside. The order is top to bottom on the left, then top to bottom on the right.
I stand corrected.
In this order the shove is even more blatant. Picture 4 has mulherin putting his hand up, Picture 5 putting his hand on Leeder's back, picture 6 pushing him away.
Make up your own mind.
Funny how you miss the whole sequence.... explain picture 41
http://www.hokiesports.com/track/gallery/
That starts at the mile line... Leeder "struck" first... it was incidental contact from both - all though Mulherin's on the video looks like he was trying to steady himself when he touched Leeder, and I said touched and not a push.... no way this should have been a DQ.
In picture 41, Leeder is in lane 2. Who moved into who's space?
