I completely agree, I've been a fan of Goucher since the "Running with the Buffalo" days and this quote just shows the fire and passion he still has for running. As for you fitness joggers stop hatin on Goucher and watch some of his old HS/Colleges races, you will be amazed.

He's always been that way, has a habit of talking big but not ever backing it up. No wonder Big Talk Kara was drawn to him. Remember, coming out of college, it was, "bring on the Kenyans?" Of course, he never made it onto a podium against them and his best international finish was in a heavily diluted xc race. He couldn't even make the Olympic team in 2008, he has zero basis for comparing himself to Lagat. Stop training so hard, Adam, and get that sperm count up for Kara.

Adam has always been a good guy. His plan to run a fall marathon is similar to that of other Oregon-based marathoners including that guy Dathan.

all those guys have a more legit shot at making it than goucher. marathon is just not his event. he is not very efficient and gets hurt too easily. i would put his odds at 50:1 at best. he has a better shot at making the 10k team.

If anything relevant comes out of the Oregon Project, Darren Treasure will deserve a 7 figure bonus from Nike.

I absolutely hate it when people bash Goucher. He was the ONE GUY in the late 90's who had the balls to take on the Kenyans without fear (once Kennedy started trailing off), and he was the one who inspired the Ritz/Webb/Hall generation to dream big. He's fought through more bad luck in one decade than most people have in a lifetime and he's still hungry. I truly hope that he can keep his body in one piece and pull it off. If there's one guy who has paid his dues in this game, it's Goucher.

The guy is definitely crazy. That has been the cause of much of his success though. I hope he learns how to live life without running though, because even though he may have a few more years in him, he ain't going to be doing this ten years from now, at least not at the level he's been at before (obviously). Having that insane desire/drive is a double-edged sword. It can work wonders but it can also all but destroy your life when things aren't going well. He needs to find the balance of drive while also chilling enough to not care what other people think.

Regardless, I wish him the best of luck and am happy he's healthy and training again.
