Kenyan runners are skinny as hell because they train INCREDIBLY HARD, not because they eat mostly carbs. They also tend to get fat when they retire and not live very long.
This is a big misconception: you can get fat without eating fat! The body stores excess carbohydrates as fat. Eat less or train more and you'll lose weight.
body stores excess CALORIES as fat. Period.
And while body of runner have very hard time processing excessed calories or fat (they require more energy to turn into glycogen), carbs are just perfect to keep training routine. And they tend to have way more vitamins / minerals than food with fat.
Moreover, fat is disaster for human body - check out results of very low fat diets, they are quite incredible, like prostate cancer reversion in every patient in treated group.
About Kenyans getting fat after retiring... well, they switch to "american" diet when they do so. They have also money for all the drugs and alcohol. Show me guy from poor Africa village, where average IQ tends to be ~60, who doesn't turn into drug addict once he got some cash in pocket. Not to mention negative effect of all the "extra stuff" they took to become champions (and no, don't tell us fairytales about PED-free Kenya).
