Question for all the collegiate 800m runners out there, or any 800 runners for that matter.
Am new to the 800m distance and have a few questions.
First, concerning my base, I've peaked at 50 MPW usually cycling 2 weeks up and one recovery week of anywhere between 30 to 35 miles, is this peak considered enough milage for an 800 runner?
Second, I'd like to begin bringing my milage down because the workouts are beginning to pick up in intensity, but I do not want to lose the fitness base I've acquired over the last 5 months.
Is 1 long run a week, (10 miles) enough to maintain the base I have developed, or do I need to be doing more than this?
Currently I run approximately 20 to 25 miles off the track a week, in 3 runs, comprised of basic aerobic running at paces ranging from 7 to 8 minutes per mile.
