I have read most of the posts on this thread. This is a message board for runners. You feel that the most "fit" people in the world are those that can run for hours and hours at a time. To that end, most runners are relatively weak (except in the legs, which are still relatively weak). They can't do many pull-ups, would be lucky to bench press their weight, and wouldn't have the slightest idea what a clean and jerk, muscle-up, or burpee was.
I personally have no interest in running for more than 45 minutes or so. As a matter of fact, my training intensity increases as I become more fit so that I don't have to continue to train longer and longer and longer.
I have been training with Crossfit for about 2 1/2 years. Had I been exposed to it earlier, I would have used it with many of my clients when I was a personal trainer.
Alan, you are a prime example of the arrogant douchebag you claim most CF trainers to be, I don't care whether you're educated or not. The saying, "It's better to remain quiet and thought an ass than to speak and affirm it" comes to mind. You trash CF for using the same muscle groups in consecutive days, but then would recommend:
Day 1 -run
Day 2- run some more
Day 3- more running
The training routines of those that are regular contributors to this board and those of the CF message board are totally different. Could some of those from the CF site benefit in their 5k times from listening to some recommendations here? Undoubtedly. But to trash something that has been proven to be effective is ignorant.
If I was going to take up marathon training, I wouldn't go out and run 15 on day 1. I also wouldn't expect a runner to try 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300, situps, 400 squats without scaling. I would hope that you would have a bit more common sense.
Oh, and validating your opinion with "I have a BS in Exercise Science" is a joke, as is most likely the degree. Congrats on showing up for those tough classes.
