Hospital Treadmill (McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA) Only Goes up to 7.5mph for Safety Reasons
7.5 mph is approximately 8:30 pace, isn't it?
That could be frustrating if you're a patient trying to maintain fitness...
I've been on a few that wouldn't go past 10 (6 min mile) for safety reasons, but never one as slow as 7.5 (8 min mile). Someone at the hospital must be responsible for maintaining it. Ask them to change the max speed setting. Or call the company yourself and make up some story about your just taking over the maintenance and need to know how to change it. There is a technical solution to this.
You could just jack up the incline.
Strange. I'm in a large VA hospital (Minneapolis), we have 3 in the fitness center, all go to 15 mph. 2 are ancient, the newer one has a nice random incline setting, to help break up the monotony (even if just by a tiny amount...)
McLean is a hospital focusing on mental illness, which could be a factor. The people who use it rarely go that fast or if they do,they dont stay on there for long.

15 mph? I've never been on one that could go that fast. The fastest one I've been on goes to 12 (5 min mile). What's 15? a 4:30 pace? Or even faster maybe.
Many treadmills I've been on really start to shake at about a 5:30 pace or faster (some worse than others). I can't imagine someone (not me!) running 4:30s on one. You get some really strange looks in a hotel fitness center when you're wailing away at level 11.5 on a tempo run and the damn machine is practically vibrating across the floor.

That's what she said.
I've only taken them up to 12 or so for workouts, they stay pretty steady. 15 is 4 flat pace, I don't think they've ever been used at that speed- I just turned it up to the max to see what it was, since any user-guide is long lost.
Fastest I've seen a treadmill go with someone on it was at a performance lab, some friends were doing a study, and they had their subjects (all college cc runners) run a fairly long warm-up, then they hopped on the treadmill and started to crank up the speed, stopping every 2 or 3 minutes to take a blood sample from a finger-prick. Fairly entertaining to watch guys try to hop back on the belt as it was going sub 4:30- they'd hold on to the hand rails, and start running in the air and lower themselves onto the belt. I think 1 guy made it to 4:20, but got spit out the back before he could finish that 2-3 minute segment.

They took the blood sample from the prick?!?!?!? I have never heard of this before. Granted there is a big vein there but wasn't it a bit awkward to get the blood?
A hospital is not the European Health Spa. If you are in a hospital presumably you are sick meaning you wont be able to get on a treadmill for a run at any speed. I'm surprised that hospital has a treadmill at all although I suppose the Cardiology Dept. uses it for stress tests but not for sprinting, I hope.
7.5 mph is approximately 8:30 pace, isn't it?Exactly 8 minute pace.
Well when you have someone who is suicidal/mixed up in the head they could try to hurt themselves with a speed faster than 7.5mph

They would have to be pretty mixed up to try to kill themselves (in the case of the suicidal person). I'd be surprised if a person who wasn't already fragile could do serious damage at 10 or 12 mph.
What about lobotomy , euthanasia , cremation ? We need reform !

Please tell me you're kidding.
Tell me, how much "calculating" does it take to divide 60 by 15?
