At prenats, there were some cases of two runners coming in together, and their official order of finish was different than their chip-time order. For our team (Montana State), it looked like these close finishes were only checked for the frontrunners. Lyle Weese was chip-timed in front of Ed Torres but the photo put Torres in front. Farther back in the race it seems like our fourth guy (Jon Gibson)was in front of another guy but (maybe?)chip times were used for the order of finish? This didn't change anything important for the scores, but it could come up again at nationals.
Given how quickly the results were announced (minutes), it seems like it would have been difficult to have carefully checked all the close finishes, all the way through the field?
So, does anyone know how this will work at Nationals? If we are going to use chip times in the middle of the pack, we should use them at the front too. Or better, use photos to review all the close finishes.
Last year it came down to one point!
