I have noticed Pittsburgh program over the past years. It has become a joke....all money are going into sprints.....and the head coach there is a dictator to his employees. The distance program is non existent.
Poor non sprinter student athletes that make the mistake to go there....I really feel sorry for them
Terrible, just terrible leadership.
Bigs has plenty of options in life. Dude is intelligent and darnit, people like him!
And to answer the ? about it-he is at Youngstown State now. YSU is building an indoor facility and Big Man knows Ohio.
What is going on with the Eastern Illinois U jobs (I believe there were 2 openings)? Anyone have updates?
The EIU jobs are both off the NCAA website. Anybody know what's up there? Are both spots filled already (doesn't seem likely)?
Any D-I job posting is already filled by the time it reaches NCAA job website. It is WHO you know, not WHAT you know.
So for the Georgia State Head Distance Coach - would a white male who was an olympian in distance, with collegiate coaching experience, have a shot at the position, or would he likely be beaten out by a minority hire.
Who could this be?

Hmmm. Tough call. A minority with any college coaching experince would beat him. A female who is a minority with just GA experience would beat him for sure. He might even have a tough time against a white female with just GA or 1 year experience. It's rough out there for those white males, no matter what their experience. At some point Head coaches will wake up and call AD's on their behind closed doors hiring mandates, i.e. "you need to look for a female on this one" or I "like" the fact that he/she is a minority.
Bob Schul?
Jumps position has been put on hold - not going to fill it right away. Planning to fill the distance position asap.
Are they looking to fill it with an experienced college coach or with alumni that has several years of h.s. coaching and teaching experience? They have some pretty strong alumni classes that has been coaching successfully at the high school level in the Chicago suburbs for five years or so. Some of those h.s. programs are the best in the state and Midwest region.
I know for a fact an Olympian middle distance runner with collegiate coaching experience has applied for the job. If the athletes at GSU want an experienced coach who knows distance they should request the administration at least interviews the guy (something they didnt do in the spring the last time the job was up for grabs).

There is also a female coach with similar credentials to the guy you are describing. Hopefully both will get a chance to interview.
Being an olympic middle distance runner has pretty much no bearing on his/her ability to coach.
Right, CoachT. The only thing that has any bearing on coaching ability is that they are black or female.

When the horse isn't a factor, it won't get beaten anymore.

I'm not denying it's a factor, but it's not a factor worth getting into on this particular thread, is it? BIG topic, that one.
