Marijuana is illegal from the federal government perspective, and it is still not clear how the state-federal dialogue will play out. That being said, the World Anti-Doping Agency lists three reasons for drug testing in sport: (1) to prevent cheating through the use of performance-enhancing substances and methods; (2) to deter athletes from ingesting substances that may harm the athlete’s health; and (3) to deter athletes from ingesting substances or engaging in doping methods that are contrary to the spirit of sport. Whereas the CSMAS rightly focused on the fact that marijuana and other street drugs are not performance enhancing, the committee also recognizes that the universe of sport is special, and the student-athlete is obliged to embrace the spirit of sport. We do not believe that student-athletes should be ingesting marijuana and other street drugs, and we believe that a combination of penalties coupled with behavioral intervention is the most balanced approach to this issue.

The NCAA is testing to 5 ng/ml??? That's really sensitive. That's 0.000000005 grams per ml of blood! With this low of a threshold, they'll be able to tell if you've ingested THC in the past year!

Funny that a troll bump put a secondhand smoke thread on the front page around the time of the NCAA memo.
smoke tobacco and pot myself. not great for running but i smoke about an ounce and a half of pouch tobacco a week. still get out and hit sub 6 pace for about 8 everyday. used to just smoke pot and it didn't do much. a quarter a month is nothin. tobacco aint good, but running isnt the only priority.
I've raced everything from 5k to 50k - toeing the line completely stoned. Im training for a 50miler in March and I've been pushig my milage hard- so i'm around 50 a week now. Running stoned is great! I put on my shorts, shoes, watch- toke a bowl then out the door. The miles seem to fly by.
If I'm doing speed work or running with friends or a group I don't smoke- just those Saturdays or Sundays that I've got more than 12 on the schedule.
I'm very curious if any one has used in the middle of an ultra race -"ingesting" at the last 10 of a 50 miler could really take the edge off. I've heard of people drinking beer and running but pot a little more subversive. So let hear some stories.
Who's embarrassing whom? Rude and aggressive post in response to a genuine question. And furthermore, any decent doc will certainly prescribe and discuss medical marijuana treatment options. And , as a part time bud-tender, I can say that we always suggest treatment and dosage with patients.
I don't claim to have the answers but I've been smoking weed for over three years now and I'm a senior in high school. I smoke pretty much every day now, and I can run the 2-mile in under 10 minutes, the mile in under 4:40, and I did a 16:19 5k in the fall. People call me an idiot for still blazing but honestly, for the sake of maybe 5 seconds in the mile, to stop doing what I love with my friends just isn't even worth it. If I ever start noticing it's effects I will change but until then I see no reason. That's my rant

Which is worse on your running, tobacco or marijuana? Or does it improve your running? Kinda like that study that found marijuana smoke to have a mild preventative effect against lung cancer.
It makes absolutely no sense to inhale anything if you're trying to improve your lung capacity. And inevitably, as you get older and continue to enjoy the spliff while your metabolism slows, you will get lazier and fatter and being fit will be a flitting memory, along with a lot of other things.

In case it was not pointed out / differentiated in this thread previously -- there is no "one" type of marijuana.
Ergo, THC focused or heavy strains, CBD strains etc.
It is possible to take in CBD strains that do not make you high, or make you have the munchies, or make you hyper etc., all you will notice is a reduction in inflammation, or pain, etc.
Personally, I'm not into smoking anything.
However in capsule form, it's different than any big pharma med, and possibly healthier...
Marijuana forces the liver to release extra Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG), a protein that binds to testosterone and renders it inert for athletic purposes. Outside of its relaxation benefits, marijuana is a cancer to athletes. Lower free testosterone = less muscle mass and longer recovery times.
Personally, I have done both. I can say from my own personal experience that using my vaporizer is much more enjoyable. Moreover, I enjoy running a lot, and smoking with a vape lets me have a nice run without coughing. If you need some more info on cannabis products, check out https://www.zenabis.com/ website.
I've read a lot of stories on https://cannasos.com/ where people say that cannabis can be combined with sports. I do believe in it.
I think such a service is available with cbd. I've read here https://greenshoppers.co.uk/reviews/how-much-does-cbd-oil-cost-comparing-prices-across-the-uk/ about its advantages and it is quite impressive. Now I want to try it more than usual weed.
