Funny story:
My coach was a former 800 female runner...During my F,S,and Junior years (no xc) She said DO NOT run after May through Feb. as you need rest and recovery! No cross training, NOTHING. I believed her (with a mile pr of 5.07! ha ha) until I decided to run a 5k road race (my first ever over 2mile race) in the fall of my Jnuior year. I went out with the community college XC guys and their coach (9th at xc nats and coach was <2:19 marathoner in 08) in like 5.02 for a new pr while they were barely racing. I finished crawling in at 22.04!! HA ha. I then joined the CCXC team for their morning runs there on out...and my senior year told the HS coach the XC coach said it was ok if I ran with the team (NOT LEGAL). So I was in the HS work release (1pm) program to get to the CC at 1:15 and ran with them. Come senior track season the other distance guys (3-4 guys 2:30 800 to 5:30 milers) thought it was BS I wasn't running with them. Well in the first meet I dropped a 4:44, winning the mile, thinking I was king (that was 8 sec off the school record! sad I know) and the coach took all the credit. I won most of the mile/2mile races with 4.36-4.44,10.00-10.10s AGAIN SAD I know :)
Anyway just thought that might crack a smile on some of you.
