I'm planning on making a run @ a 30:00-30:30 for 10K on the track next spring (as a open/unattached/post-collegiate guy)& I'm trying to figure out where to make it happen. I'm currently planning on late April, but as there's not a lot of top 10Ks around, I'm open to suggestions. I could also re-think my plans and go for a race later in the summer if need be.
Obviously, I don't want to run alone (behind or ahead). One big problem is that I haven't run a quality 10K yet. I ran 32:21 on the roads @ altitude this year (& 14:47 on the track @ sea-level), but coming off marathon training, I plan on being in pretty "big shape" (for me)next spring, so 30 minutes shouldn't be out of the question @ sea-level.
Some thoughts are Drake Relays, Penn Relays, Mt.SAC & Stanford, but how easy will it be to get in any of these meets without a qualifying 10K on the track. I'm planning on running a 5K on the track @ altitude earlier in the spring (I unfortunately can't afford more than 1 sea-level trip next spring) & think that running 14:45 or so would earn some consideration in getting into a quality 10K field.
Any ideas/suggestions are much appreciated.
