Just a heads up on Grove City, take it for what you will. I am a mid-level manager at a fairly large company, and although I am not in HR, I am often involved in hiring decisions. There are certain schools whose graduates we will generally not hire. Grove City is one of those schools, as are many online universities. I am sure any alums of that school will scream at me for this comment, but if you are a prospective student, you should understand what you are paying for. And for the record, Ivy graduates don't get much of a bump from us, although they do tend to be stronger in areas that we do consider heavily.
Thanks for the advice, what’s the reason for not hiring them?
Grove city college is gay
Can't speak for him, but I did. In fact, I have a couple pieces of the track surface in my basement from when they tore it down. The best part of Wert was extreme banks in the corners. Hard to imagine someone ran a 1:50 800 in that place. There were equipment closets between the piller in places, and sometimes the doors wouldn't get secured properly. You'd come around the corner and there'd be a 6 foot wide plywood door stretched across the track...

I agree that top 20 is a bit much for prestige. Go with what you listed and add on UMichigan for sure and maybe Illinois-Urbana Champ.
Then again, do you honestly believe that anyone outside of these elite insitutions doesn't get a job?
Graduated and ran for the Zips at Akron U. Finished top in my class and now work for GE making $70 grand on my 5th year. Very little debt, bachelor, and making good money, LIFE IS GOOD and I didn't go to an Ivy.
What's your preferred exfoliation product? Record for crunches in a minute?

Haha, you realize bragging about your undergrad after graduating is as lame as bragging about your high school SAT score while in undergrad, don't you?
I think distance running tends to require focus, and focused people tend to be bright and successful (or nerdy). Makes sense that there's a correllation(sp?).
Clemson
Morehead, then a MSc from Ball State

at that time no XC or Track at the university but we had a great BB team...Gerald Wilkins, Willie White, and Russ Schoene all played in the NBA. Willie was the star at the time. Gerald was a Allstar in the NBA, and Russ played behind Jack Sikma. The mens BB coach had 16 children!!!!!

My Junior yr Prof Underwood had me run the mile in one of our required classes....after no real training since HS I ran 4:44 mile, I was quit surprised!

Just curious as to why you do not hire Grove City College graduates.
Alma College - ran cross country and track and got a solid education. Masters from EMU was a breeze.

For the same reason schools did not at one time admit Jews and Blacks; Grove City, consistently touted as one of the best educational values in the US, is a Christian College and Mr. mid-level manager apparently works for a politically correct(bigoted) company.
Devoted to rigorous, classical education and free academic thought, Grove City is tough to enter but its relative affordability have made it well known across the country and parents whose kids are only in elementary school(my wife and I included) have it on their short lists. We run into them all the time. College planning is considered exciting barbecue conversation for couples with little kids.
Grove City is also an enthusiastic running community not far from Pittsburgh.
I can't go into many specifics, but we were burned pretty badly by a few Grove City hires over the years, and a few years ago an HR consultant's review indicated that several of our peers had stopped hiring Grove City grads. We did some digging, decided the academic curriculum was not acceptable from our standpoint, and moved on. Our company tends to be moderate to conservative, actually, and we are a technology company (which might give you a clue as to what aspects of academia we would evaluate.) It has nothing to do with the political or religious stance of Grove City. We do hire people from some "Christian" schools, and many of our staff are Christian.
