So the runners who didn't break 2:22 didn't belong at the trials?
28th! 20 f'in 8th. Who deserves to be where. Whoever started that whole post about the non-qualifiers should get a beat down. As a dear friend of Jason Ryf, I am not surprised to see that he ran sub-2:22 at the trials. You know why? Cause the boy has nuts! And training in Wisconsin was supposed to make him weak I guess. Have you ever trained in wisconsin in the Winter? Glad to see Meb admitted to not running over 100 during his training. So much for that theory being the only way to be a great runner. Glad to see Michael Cox (another unworthy 2:22+ guy) run sub 2:22. The third guy, Worthen also did an admirable thing by finishing. Too bad to see all the scratches/non-finishers becuase of this or that. Bad case of imaginitis going around. I'm out.
semperunning,
As a contributer to that post, I would encourage you to review some of the content. Nobody made any mention that running a 2:22+ before the Trials meant that the athlete was incapable of a 2:22 during or after the Trials. So the question is how would you draw the line? Would it be based on an athlete's potential to run below 2:22 at the Trials? I would like to see your decision-making process on this subject.
People said he didn't deserve to be at the Trials because he didn't run under 2:22; the standard set by the USATF. That's it, plain and simple. It wasn't a personal matter against him. If anything, then, it's a personal matter against EVERYONE who is slower than 2:22. People were saying that EVERYONE who can't break 2:22 doesn't deserve to run in the Olympic Trials.
I don't see where his training in the cold has anything to do with his ability to run fast or not. I think you'll agree that fast people come from all climates in this country. Is there a correllation between fast runners and cold weather that the rest of us are missing?

Why is that proof? The date of the Trials was after the qualifying window. What case did he have in the first place?
You know, some of you guys are just SO negative.
If you honestly try the world of love and peace that Flagpole Willy lives in you'd have a much better life.
Of course technically I know he didn't make the qualifying time - just giving this guy props for not just jogging that race - he nutted up and ran a time under the qualifying time when MANY didn't, proving to me that he belonged in that group.
Good for him.
