My college team just did a time trial on our flat, but fast indoor track this weekend.
The 400/800 runners all ran 600 and we are trying to figure out what these times really mean in relation for the season.
What do the following times indicate?
Two people ran 1:20 going 52-28
Two more ran 1:22 going 53-29
A bunch of guys at 1:24.
The 400 runners ended up going out well (51-52), but died pretty badly in the last lap.
Our coach thinks the 1:20s show that we have the ability to go under 1:50 this season, and the 1:22s will go 1:51-1:52.
What do you guys think about this? Is it even possible to speculate? We know our times are not close to being elite, but we are trying to gauge where we are at the end of the fall preseason stage. Most of the other schools ran indoor meets already, but our coach has a policy against doing that (except for the XC guys who are trying to get a quick qualifying time in after the season.)
