amputation!!!
A running buddy of mIne termed the ailment as PECKERTHERMIA!

Definitely good advice. Also, if you don't want to spring for wind briefs, a layer of duct tape over a jock works just as well.

You're the first person to ever have a frozen penis from running.

Cold shower (water set very soft), it seems like the worst idea, but it shuts down the blood being sent to the skin and stops the cells from the bursting pressure that they are experiencing.
I have had to do this for running/penis frostbite and cycling/hands and feet and skiing/penis.
To the guy that said we think we are tough or stupid. It isn't that, the times it happened running I was just 13/14/15 yrs old. If wind-briefs existed I could not afford them and all I had to wear was gore-tex pants. Those would not cut it for a race (too loud). Later I raced in the winter in tights with underwear beneath them and that was enough for most winter races.
When it happened skiing I was wearing a XC skinsuit type race suit and was just out there too long in too much cold and wind. The wind-front briefs don't stretch that well and sometimes I don't wear them for races. So, yeah I guess I was stupid.
For cycling, freezing your hands and feet happens even if you cover them up with wool socks, shoes and shoe covers. It happens to everyone when it is 20 deg or under. I guess you could say I am stupid for riding at that temp, but that is a choice.
I don't think I had the same thing, but I had something equally bad.
I think it was from wearing running pants and loose underwear. I ran 8 miles in the rain and I think the friction wore it out. I came home and had a bloody tip. Urinating, showering, etc. were extremely painful. It took 3 days to heal.

yes, once. half way through the run I decided to sacrific my fingers for my genitals. I stuffed my glove down my shorts and froze my hand off instead. Definitely prevented it from getting worse, but some damage was already done. Hurt for a week.
Thanks for the visual. You made my night. I'm sure the image I have is totally different then the way it was, but I'm still laughing! (Not at your pain. That would be mean.)
Our son and members of his high school xc ski team, as well as college athletes in the races we attend, have all had this problem. On some days even wind briefs aren't the whole answer. Take a look at our website, hppt://www.PolarJock.com for the solution that is helping all these guys. Good Luck!
Soak it in cider.
Natural selection demands we not answer this post.
Coach Ralph Tate at Oklahoma State often talked about a fur lined jocky strap. That was the 1970s, a man “a head of the times.”
Pics?
Um, ever heard of a treadmill?
YES happened to me maybe like 10 years ago - grabbed clothes quickly on my way out the door to catch a flight to Kansas City ... grabbed thin short tights instead of winter ones. When i took a warm shower after an hour long run, i threw up in the shower from the pain of the water hitting it. Was better in a few days, but it did suck pretty bad. Never made that mistake again.
it can happen in a cold breezy rain. Once I went out in shorts when the temp was just above freezing, but there was a light drizzle and a steady wind which made it much worse. A few miles in I realized my mistake when I started to feel a tingly numbness down there. I was really worried it was getting frost bite.
I ran the rest of the way back home with my hand down my shorts holding onto it to keep it warm.
Yeah, once when I lived in VT I had to stop halfway through a run because it was so painful. Being 4 miles from home, I took my socks off and put them on my pecker and ran the rest of the way home sockless. Definitely made some wardrobe changes after that.
I wear Boxer briefs, half tights, and running pants at 32 degrees down to zero. For sub zero temps I add a pair of long running tights under my pants. Never have any issues with 4 layers over the important parts. I learned the hard way a couple times in high school. You are warm while running all summer. No reason to not be warm while you run in the winter.
What temperatures is this happening at for all of your peckerthermia vets?
I've felt numb after an hour run in ~29F and windy in just a pair of running shorts, but thankfully had no pain as I was warming back up. I've since switched to compression shorts under running shorts from 22F-30F, and tights+compression shorts at
i always wear a pair of short shorts over my umderwear when its really cold, then i put on my tights overtop. i learned my lesson the hard way too with a frozen tip one day too.
lol! this is why females are the superior species! i run in wisco and never a prob...
bump :( need help in bad pain
