It's looking red and kinda painful, not an STD, definitely from running in the cold, has this happened to anyone else?

Yes it has: http://tinyurl.com/yhmek7y
Yes, I've gotten it several times while xc-skiing. The worst was about 15 years ago on a chilly and frosty (high humidity) day. I was wearing wind briefs, but they weren't enough. As the member thawed out, the pain was quite intense and I spent a serious 20 minutes bawling my eyes out. I vowed, then and there, that such an experience would never happen to me again. So far, so good. Cover yourself up.
anyone else?
idiot
yes, once. half way through the run I decided to sacrific my fingers for my genitals. I stuffed my glove down my shorts and froze my hand off instead. Definitely prevented it from getting worse, but some damage was already done. Hurt for a week.
Yes.
I made this mistake only once.
I remember as I thawed, I laid on the couch in such incredible pain I could hardly move or breathe. I was also scared to death, I was only about 15. If I could have moved to call an ambulance, I probably would have.
Glad I'm not the only one. Where is global warming when you need it? Thanks a lot Al Gore!
put a low cut sock around little Elvis underneath your briefs.
Happened to me too, on a below freezing day a few years ago when i was senior in high school. Worst pain of my life would not wish it upon anyone else ever. I still have a black mark as a reminder, although its a useful conversation tool the first time a chick is getting in your pants.

It is not from "short" shorts, but from shorts that offer no wind-block. I ran a 25km race once first week in December (in Michigan) and I had a LS shirt, gloves and a hat, but thought that my normal summer running shorts would be enough. After all they worked for all of my CC races that Fall. Well, the penile frostbite SLOWLY creeps up on you. When I finished (~1:36) I stopped and used the toilet. While sitting in there it hurt soooo bad I wanted to cry. I was paralyzed with pain and then tenderness on the penis for about 2 hours.
It happened to me yrs later while XC skiing a couple times as well. I was just too lazy to find my wind-front briefs and it was about 3 deg Fahrenheit. Skied for 2:30 and it was painful when it was over. Not as bad as running in nylon shorts though.
Just use wind-block briefs and some thick tights. Don't run in JUST shorts in winter no matter what.
Next time it happens, rinse it with COLD water. When the pain subsides a little, make the water lukewarm, then just rest and try to let it return to room temp.
how about the after effects? Like a red welt bruise type of thing?
Personally I think this is a 5/10 attempt.
But on the other hand, I've seen enough idiots trying to act tough in cold weather to believe someone is stupid enough to do this.
This thread should be entertaining, with all the letsrun tough guys regaling us with stories of runs in cotton in cold weather, otherwise known as "keepin it real letsrun style."
It's not always because of just wearing running shorts trying to act tough. I wore a nice pair of running pants, shorts and underwear. It just so happens that a -15 windchill and running the same way for an extended period of time didn't help my cause.
At cold temperatures/wind chills, you do whatever you have to do to protect the package. On ultra-cold days, I'll have several layers plus some handkerchiefs and dishrags tucked into my crotch area.
John, is that you?
Seriously, it's foolproof. Of course some groundwork has to be laid first, but your sharing a secret that seems embarrasing which makes them more comfortable about you then obviously they want to see it. Then if you can't finish from there you have zero game.
Umm, not seeing this one.[/quote]

You're the first person to ever have a frozen penis from running.
Seriously. Whatever you do don't jump into a shower immediately after your run -- you will regret it. Put on dry clothes and crawl under a blanket until your johnson warms up. The its okay to take a hot shower.
