So with the letsrun radio broadcasts and the flotrack ustfccca convention coverage I have noticed a lot of top coaches follow the yakolev model of supercompensation to some extent. It may not be exactly to the model where as both volume and intensity increase 3 weeks in a row then take a down week, but for most programs volume is consistent for 3 weeks and intensity goes up for three weeks and then there is a down week with both. My question is when does the racing happen? If you race at the end of the 3rd week you are in your hardest week of training and performance will suffer. If you race in the down week, it no longer becomes a down week as racing is the hardest stimulus of all...Can anyone tell me? I am guessing you race at the end of the 4th week before starting a new mesocycle.
