This morning I ran a 5K in 16:40 – it was a flat course but certified. This was a big pr for me (previous pr was 16:55) but unexpected because I haven’t done any intervals or hard track stuff in a while – just mileage, strides and lots of tempos.
So my question is: how fast could I do a 5 x 1200 workout with 3min recoveries?
you might want to listen to the rojo podcast and read his training article, trying to fgure out what you can do in a workout is counter productive to improvement, you just ran a PR, stick with what's working, do you really need a 5x1200m PR?, I would assume you would want a race PR as oppose to a workout one, as rojo stated "relaxed fast" is the way to run workouts, don't worry about what you do a certain workout in because that theory would not yield PR's, your training appears to be working for you eg. your 5k PR, what do you think a fast 5x1200m workout is going to do for you - turn into a 15min 5ker overnight, sure do the workout but run the reps under control, I would cut the rest to 2min because that way it should put the governer on yourself not to start off too fast
"RELAXED FAST", quote of the year!!!
