She's now an USATF coach or something.
Run far and fast from Georgia State....they took their time in the hiring proccess this past summer...I hear they have no intentions of hiring anyone until next August. Until then the guy with no degree will be coaching them. Can you say bye-bye to the distance squad?
Funny feelings about that situation, you get a great job with a great situation and you leave after 4 short months. Fishy... Apart from the obvious press release, anybody with some inside info on what is going on at GSU. Are they just dropping the distance programs?
They are NOT dropping the distance program.
Almost no one who followed the previous coaches would have an easy go of it. This coach, the one who just quit, really was not a good fit (to put it mildly and without going into detail.) I have no idea why she took the job only to move on but administration will do a search for a new coach. They are not dropping the program. However, they do understand that it may take a few months before quality individuals become available. If a qualified individual does apply soon they have said that they will hire that individual. I do think that the biggest fear is that the next hire will be similar to this past one - not qualified.

There are usually two sides to each story. One would assume the coach who just left would know how such an early departure would make her look. If people now want to summarize the situation as her being "not qualified", GSU supporters can only hope that those doing the hiring don't hire another "not qualified" coach this time around.
I don't think she went into this with the idea of moving on so quickly. This other job probably presented itself and was something she wanted to do. This is not all that unusual in many professions.
I think many GSU supporters wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt (she had not shown a ton of success at her previous job) but as time went by it was apparent that this was not a good fit.
She just never fit in at all and more due diligence should have gone into the hire. Most coaches understood the situation at GA State (the previous coach's turmoil) and knew it was a tough situation. She showed a lot of interest and they hired her.
This program can be turned around with the right coach. It's a D1 program! UGA and Tech are recruiting all over and other close schools are recruiting foreigners. The state has a lot of talent.
If you care at all then contact Associate AD - Finance & Administration,Marvin Lewis, 404-413-4012,
. He seems to be the person in charge of the last hire and the new hire. He obviously needs input.
What do you guys mean by she was not a fit and in what ways was she not qualified? I remember back when she was hired many people on that forum were commenting about how succesful she had been before and how well her interview with the team went.
She was never successful. She is a woman. That is why she got the job in the first place. Ga state got what they deserved by hiring someone that inept.

Lewis had no say in the hiring of Kamp. Director of Athletics Cheryl Levick, has the final word and told Marvin Lewis to hire a woman.
Any new news on this position?
Why did she split suddenly?
I cannot imagine a job at USTFCCCA could be better than Head coach at D-I university.
It has become very difficult being optimistic concerning the future of the distance program at GSU.
After the problem former athletic director was fired, several protaganists were left in a position of authority over the program by the new athletic director. These two who still have an axe to grind because of their connection with the former AD, continue to influence the direction of the program in a negitive way. Neither one would be considerd qualified to hold their positions at any other D1 schools.
Hiring the last coach was a prime example of lack of experience and not doing the due diligence required. One only had to look at the last three years experience and sucess or lack of sucess at Wright State U. Both the men's and women's team finished 7th or 8th out of 9 teams for the men and 10th for women the three years she was head coach.
Indeed, this year with her gone and her former assistant coach running the program at Wright State, the girls team actually improved one place from last year finishing 7th of 10 teams in their conference.
This was to be the year the GSU girls were prepared to challange for the championship. The last two years they were only a few points away from being runner up in the CAA XC Championship and the boys were runnerup.
However this year the boys team finished 7th and the girls team finish 8th.
Some of this was due to injuries and several of the girls top runners were granted a medical redshirt.
However, now I hear that one of the top runners is going to tranfer because of the coaching situation. Another very promising girl runner is also thinking about transfering.
Do I think that the current administration cares? I believe that they are mostly concerned about the new football program and the millions to be spent on bringing bigtime sports to GSU! Oh yeah, just like the basketball program is doing now, drawing big crowds like Ga Tech does.
What does this mean for the Cross Country program? One of the few sucessful athletic programs at Ga State under former Coaches, John Rowland and Jessica Raby now faces a sad demise because of the lack of interest by the new Athletic Director.
Other programs watch out!
Some of you need to know the facts before you comment. Op-to-myst, you are ignorant when it comes to the Georgia State CC and TF program. Stop trying to make it look like you are an insider. You are wayyyy off. Your facts are NOT the facts.

well... what are the facts? Fill us in.
Oh ! must have touched a nerve! Only two people would have responded to my post and I know one doesn't have any writing skills. Now what were you thinking when this white chick comes into your office proudly showing her new plastic and her tongue ring? Exactly, you hired her.

What are you talking about??!!
I don't see much incorrect in what op-t-myst wrote. The only thing I would correct is the part where one of the top girls is thinking of transferring...she isn't thinking anymore, she is gone.
