Dear LetsRun,
What would happen if I adopted the following training routine?
2 week rotation
2 quality workouts and a long run each week
All other runs are easy paced mileage with a few strides thrown in.
Week 1 Quality workouts are:
1) 60 minute tempo run
2) 6 x 1 mile with 400 jog recovery
Week 2 Quality workouts are:
1) 30 minute tempo run
2) 12 x 400 Hill repeats with jog down recovery
Week 1 long run is 25% of weekly mileage at an easy pace
Week 2 long run is 20% of weekly mileage in a form of a progression run
I am currently at 60 miles per week in mileage and plan to add 5 miles to that every 4 months until I reach roughly 100 miles in a few years. May go higher than that but won't decide that until then.
I would race once very 4-6 weeks along the way at distances from 5k to the half marathon with maybe 1 or 2 marathons per year once my mileage reaches 80 per week.
I am the sort that likes routine very much, so doing the same workouts over and over again will not bother me in the least.
Will I continue to see good progression under such a schedule. It seems to have all the bases covered fairly well. What do you think?
