What do you guys think is the right way to do a recovery week during base phase? For reference, base phase for me this year is ~ 4 months of 75 MPW, all singles. Recovery week every third or fourth week. For context, I'm 35, don't have track / CC background. 2:5x marathon, 17:xx 5k, but getting faster. During non-base phase, I'm typically in the 50 - 65 MPW range, been doing that for maybe 3 or 4 years ago. Prior to that, did run, ran marathons, but not as seriously.
My question is that I run 7 days a week, except during the recovery week when I take one day off, drop the mileage a bit across the rest of the week to hit around 50. But, I never really feel "recovered" at the end of or during that recovery week. Is it better to not take that day off, so that I can drop more mileage off of all days, but still run 7 days during the recovery week? Or, do you guys drop the mileage more or less during the recovery week?
Thanks for any advice. Looking forward to cranking out mileage this winter, and want to make the most of it.
