The world's fastest human get's lots of press. But is the fastest 100m performance as impressive as the fastest 10000m performance? Who has or had the greatest combination of speed and endurance?
I would say Said Aouita? 1:43. 800m & sub 13 5k speed.

How about Geb? Ran a great indoor 1500 as well as WR marathon. I'd say that takes it.
Haile Gebresselassie needs to be mentioned. 3:31 1500 speed INDOORS and 2:03:59 marathon...with world records and Olympic medals at major distances in between.
I ran a 12 second 100m dash in high school and a 3:15 marathon as an adult. I WIN!

Steve Haas ran a 9.4 100 yard dash, 20.7 200 meters, 46.47 400 meters and a 1:47.0 800 meters, pretty tough to beat!!!!
Perhaps surprisingly, Alan Webbs' 800m, mile, and 10k PRs compare favorably with Aouita
JOSH COX. According to his training log, he has run WR pace for nearly every distance during workouts.

zatopek broke 14 min twice for 5k. that being said you are right, he should not be in contention

Amazingly, I did not look at Gebrselassie's 1500m pr = 3:31.76 indoor! Apparently, he never raced the 800? But his 3:31 is = to a 1:43.94. He probably could reach 1:44.?
Aouita has an olymipic bronze at 800 and held the WR at 5000, plus a 27:26 10k....it's nce to have an 800 to demontrate raw speed.
But Geb is probably the best runner all time?
