To the OP, I regularly lose 6-10 pounds on runs over 10 miles in the summer. I weigh 175.

Depends on how fat your are
you feel thirsty when you lose 1 to 2 percent of your body weight.
Performance can be impeded when you hit 5%
So take a 180 pound athlete who is dehydrated say around 4%.
Plug in the high school math, and you get a loss of 7.2 pounds of your body weight.

Next time you go to eat something on a binge, just think about how much you have to work out to burn it off. On several occasions s in my life, I have eaten an entire bag (3columns worth) of Oreos with milk in one sitting, only to feel horrible that I could run a marathon and not even burn off the calories I just ate.

I like to eat 200 g of chocolate at a time and I'm very skinny. Makes me feel very good. I don't run to burn calories. I eat calories to be able to run.
