Grow up folks; Title IX is federal legislation affecting financial planning at the collegiate level. The question is not whether Football upsets the balance of sports; the fundamental issue to consider is whether the federal government has any business legislating collegiate athletics.
Only if you say yes, do we get to how colleges should balance their budgets. Of course, however, it is my strong belief that a college may balance their budget however they wish so long as consideration is given to stakeholder (alumni/taxpayers in state if state institution) input.
But, I don't think the question should ever reach step 2. Because the federal government has no business legislating collegiate athletics. The reason this is my believe is because equal access to education is unaffected by collegiate athletic programs (I don't define "access" to be as liberal as many of you would like to torture the definition).
The truth is unyielding; the silver backed glass does not bend reality's reflection; enjoy the truth and its companion, reality.
