so in your world getting 4th behind a 13:55 5k guy, a guy who got 5th at NCAAs the next year, and a guy who had a good enough day to beat them all (and beating an 8:47 gu7) is a "nose dive?"...
Minor point for future reference - German got 3rd at Footlocker as he finished in front of "a guy who got 5th at NCAAs the next year".
Not trying to give you a hard time. Your posts are right on the money.
yeah i caught that after i posted it haha, preciate it though

Careful you don't strain your foot!
So now everyone has their panties in a bunch about comments (valid or not) about German F. Where were you all while Galen Rupp was getting bashed (while winning every championship in sight)??? Hypocrites, I'd say.
german would have been 3rd last year if he did pop his achilles...idk why this is a discussion, kid is unreal, dont like him as a person, but besides that, talent is talent and he is going to run something out of control at nats for his lack of training(1331) off an injury cant be forgotten. he does run through his injuries to, he doesnt bow down because he is hurt. ncaa title next year for him. chelenga runs away with it this year tho
No.
Last time I check Sam Chelanga is still alive and is not dead. Is he done did he just say "f@ck" these guys are too good for me? the guy is a talent and should not be ignored. german is not going to win he won't try and run from the gun he will try and make it all up and play catch up, over 10k a winning strategy I think not. Plus OSU is looking at the team title it would not serve them well if he were to try and run from the gun and bomb. Its going to come down to derrick and chelanga, being that pre nats is when it is, I think chelanga was most likely in a tougher training segment and thus not exactly fresh. I feel he is gonna try and run away with this again, derrick is no rupp and will not be able to make up the difference. Chelanga by 5 to 10 seconds. OSU gets 2 to Standford.
OSU will not beat Stanford, unless half the Cardinal line-up gets Swine Flu...
I don't agree with the German is a choke artist thing. However, I don't think he is making a bid this year for the top individual spot. He does not seem to be at top fitness for that. It looks to me that Stanford has been racing hard and will be prepared for the big dance. Stanford and a few other teams are just to strong.
What angers me is that if German finishes 19th, lets say, that is a great run... yet there will be 100 posts on here saying how he's a choker. No... he was hurt and 19th after missing a summer base is not choking.
I hope German skips indoors and focuses on building a proper base. Its going to hurt his long term development if he keeps this up (get's hurt, hits the intervals hard to get sharp quickly since he is so talented, and never builds the lifetime miles).
The ironic thing is... if German did that, he would again be called a choker or something ludicrous because he isn't racing.
Smith... redshirt German indoors... have him build a proper base of 3 months with no workouts but strides and tempos, and then have him be a monster in outdoor.
There is no reason to hit a track at ALL during the winter... no intervals either.
Get back to building German's aerobic capacity. Its best for his long-term development. You don't want him to wait to focus on that til he graduates. Do it NOW.

That's right, it is all part of the plan.
It would be stupid to have German running fast!!! This is all part of the strategy. Smith is a genius!
so i guess setting a national record at nike..winning ncaa 1500, mens junior usa xc race and being the top us finisher at xc worlds, and fourth place at usa's in the 5k against professionals en route to setting a junior record is choking
German won the ncaa 1500 and then had all summer, and all fall to train.
How could he possibly not be in shape?
That is utter stupidity and bad coaching if it's true.
he was not hurt wrote:

After all, it simply isn't possible that German could have been hurt for most of the summer. Runners never have injuries do they?

The only reason why people would call German a choker after taking 19th at NCAA XC Nationals is because of all the posters who say he's God himself and will walk over everyone this year for the win. When you have a fan base hype him up beyond reasonable expectations (he hasn't even been the top runner for his team this year, yet so many are saying he's ftw) you get critics who point out his innability to fulfill those high expectations.
By the way, I wish him the best but don't think he'll be in the top 20. I personally think he'll finish between 20th and 30th as he's not showing the same form as last year. And no, OSU can not win with German (or any of their runners for that matter) nose diving. Stanford is too good and it'll take a perfect race by the entire OSU team to upset the Card's.
And I agree with the poster who said some of you are hypocrites for saying we have no right to critisize German and moderators shouldn't allow it yet Rupp/U of O bashing is the most popular thing on this site.
Derrik ftw and Stanford as a team. It pains me to say that as I don't care for the team, they used to wax us back in the day.
If by nose dive, you mean a torn Achilles... German has a history of performing well in all circumstances except under debilitating injury. In response to your trollish question, OF COURSE. Stanford is a clear favorite, but as Oregon showed in regionals, talent and money can't guarantee a win.
I love how all you 14:40 5k runners get on here and ridicule someone that could beat you running backwards. You are not the US National Junior record holder, nor do you run anywhere near as fast as he does. Take your vag cream and go make an argument somewhere else, it's not valid here.
Of course you are right wrote:

Of course he was not injured, this was all part of our strategy.
To take the summer off, to take the first part of cross country off, and to run in the back of the pack!
You will see!!!! German will run almost as well next week as he did a year ago!!!!
